My 100hp needs lubrication!

Hi all,

My 100, could do with a drop of oil. Any idea what is in there? (Factory, as only done 3000 miles)

Is it 10/30w semi? Ideally i would like to top up with the same brand too.

Thanks in advance!!

Re: My 100hp needs lubrication!

I checked my 100hp oil the other day too, went to my local Fiat dealership wanting to buy a top up bottle of Selenia oil, the 2 guys on the parts counter said not to bother its too expensive, and just said to put ordinary 10w-40 oil in, they added if the car went in for a service there, they would also just put the 10w-40 in, the oil they had in stock and used was Texaco oil

I thought it was quite a reasonable price?

So wrong - granted, during a full oil change and service, my garage will use Castrol GTX, but I got a bottle of Selenia from them, as also recommended by them, to top up the car between coming out of factory and first service.

Re: My 100hp needs lubrication!

How much oil have your cars been using? Not noticed mine drop from the max marker yet, but if it's likely to lose some before the first service I can get a bottle ahead of needing it!

Re: My 100hp needs lubrication!

I had to get a top up for mine at just over 3,000 miles (around 10 months old).

Re: My 100hp needs lubrication!

This engine will consume some oil so worth getting a top up. Honestly, any quality semi-synth 10W-40 will suffice. There is no danger mixing different manufacturers oils and I don't know of a dealer who uses Selenia which is expensive as it needs to be imported.
I usually use Halfords own brand as it is reasonably priced and easy to get hold of. I have used it in our Honda Jazz, my Panda 4x4, my daughter's 1.1 Active. In addition I have used their 5W-30 semi-synth in a Fiesta my daughter used to have.
I believe that regular oil changes and keeping the level topped up is ultimately more important than the specific make of oil, unless you're running a racing engine but that's another matter.

Re: My 100hp needs lubrication!

Indeed. My local Fiat dealer uses Shell Helix 10w40 unless you specify Selenia too.

Re: My 100hp needs lubrication!

Is this just the Panda 100hp. I have 1.4 8v GP and I have done 8000 miles in it and although I check the oil weekly I have never had to top it up at all.

I just accept this as normal as the engine only had 2000 miles when I purchased the car and the car is effectively new.

Re: My 100hp needs lubrication!

Thanks everyone. Ill get it sorted.

It has gone down to halfway on the dipstick, in 3,500 miles from new, which i recon is not bad.

Surely isn't that where it's meant to be,I was always told never to fill more than halfway

Re: My 100hp needs lubrication!

On level ground with the engine cold or at least left 5 mins after switching off it's best to fill to the top mark on the dipstick. After all, if you have the maximum permissible amount of oil in the engine then it's working less hard and providing better cooling. In addition, it gives you a greater margin of oil loss if you don't check the level so often. If you have topped up, again give the oil another 5 mins to settle into the sump before you check the level again or you could overfill.

Re: My 100hp needs lubrication!

An oil level toward the max on the dipstick helps the oil pump prime up marginally quicker too.
