Rust

Now that the new Panda has been around a year or two, has anyone noticed where they are starting to rust?

Where do I put the Waxoyl on a new one?

yup fiats have been given the galvanise treatment since '94 so you should not see rust for about twenty years if the car lasts that long !
galvanisation doesn't mean it will be rust free, just that the rusting process is slowed to a snails pace and probably then only surface rust.

Re: Rust

my 97 cinq doesn't have any rust at all - I would expect at least 10 more years from this body!

Re: Rust

Also remember where you live plays quite a big part in this.
If you live close to the sea, then the salt air will accelerate the rust / corrosion process. I've heard living near railway lines and stations does the same thing due to the brake "dust" from the trains.

Auto Express pulled apart a 60, 000 mile Active recently. Don't think I have a hope in hell of finding that issue but it was fairly recent.

In the case of my wife's 2005 1.2 Panda Team virtually every body panel bar the bonnet and roof is going rusty. I will try to post some photos of the damage but it is very worrying. I had an old Panda 20 years without any problems so I don't think quality control on the new Panda's is what it should be.

It was before the 1,000 issue I think. Good to see I'm not the only reader (subscriber).

It was last year some time i think (another subscriber here!). Only the exhaust was mentioned i think (no big deal after 60k miles) but i'll hav a look on AutoExpress website.

Only just seeing some neglected looking Bravas and Mk1 Puntos with scabby rust now. About 10 years for a car before it starts getting rough round the edges sounds about right to me when factoring in our wet/dry/wet/dry climate & our road salt etc.

Re: Rust

I've not see any rust on a New Panda. Don't bother with Waxoyl because manufacturers use wax injection already where it's needed.
Your Panda will be scrapped due to uneconomical repair of electrics or mechanicals long before it rusts way.
