Wiper blades ?!!?

I'm sure they're supposed to last more than 30 minutes. My car is just over a month old, most of that time its been dry in the SE. 2 days driving around in the rain (only 20 mins or so driving each time) and the blades are buggered. The rubber has lost its rigidity and they're leaving smears across the screen.

I know its not a big thing but this is the first thing that has miffed me about my 100HP. Off to Halfwits today to get some replacements...

By the way, I like the way the rear wiper comes on when you put it in reverse with the front wipers running.

Re: Wiper blades ?!!?

We have 2 Pandas and both had inadequate wiper blades from new. Can I recommend a set from shop4parts who used to advertise on this forum. Even allowing for delivery the set of wipers they sell is cheaper than in a parts shop and they last 1-2 years, wipe properly and, more importantly, SILENTLY.

DoctorChris - thanks a possible source of silent non juddering blades for my Panda, oh what joy no more irritating noise every time it rains.

Re: Wiper blades ?!!?

Fitted some Bosch ones from Halfwits today. Work 100 times better.

I've put dilute 'Permaclear' in my washer bottle and I'm really impressed - much less *squeeeeeak, squeeeeak, smear, squeeeeeak, squeeeeak, smear...*

Re: Wiper blades ?!!?

May I know what wipers you guys are using? Am thinking of changing my wipers too. Been in used for almost 2 and 1/2 years now!!!
Oh yeah, length size too pls?

My wipers operate a bit ridiculously, in that, in drizzle, it has minor streaks. But with a full blast rain, it wipes perfectly! Weird I know...

Thanks mates.

Re: Wiper blades ?!!?

Passenger 16 inches, drivers' 23 inches on right hand drive models. I assume this is reversed on left hand drive models. Any decent wiper blade will work just fine - I bought Bosch ones, but have had equal success with own-brand motor superstore ones before (Halfords). 2 single Bosch blades were cheaper than a set of Halfords blades this time.

By the way, in the UK we usually replace the whole wiper blade assembly which clips onto the wiper arm - I know sometimes you can get replacement rubber only.

Re: Wiper blades ?!!?

Champion wiper blades seem fine. For the rear, since you can only replace the whole arm, it is worth buying the replacement rubber inserts.

I don't seem to have the problems with wiper blades that you lot seem to have. Mine have been on my car since new (2 years now) and I have no problems with deterioration of the rubber at all, and they work perfectly (despite the Northern Ireland weather).

I usually give the blades a good clean every time I wash my car. Perhaps that is what extends their life...

I don’t care if it’s a porn shoot in which he is being gang raped by a gaggle of silverback apes, if there are cameras rolling, everybody wins. 10 grand for anyone that can deliver this to me, today.
