Hello all, I have a dashcam in the car currently plugged into the cigarette lighter socket but I've got the hard wire kit so that it can be plugged neatly into the fuse box. I eventually found the fuse box inside/behind the glove box and noticed that there are 2 empty slots at the top left - F12 & F32. Does anyone know what these are and if they can be used? The dashcam needs to be plugged into an 'Ignition On' switch if that makes sense. Cheers

The owners handbook is quite good in regards to the fuse box, it tells you which fuses are switched (only live with ignition on) and which aren't.

Your hardwire kit should come with a piggyback fuse, this doubles up any fuse socket it's plugged in to, just push the fuse you pull out into the second socket on the piggyback, so you can use a fuse socket already in use.

I've used F51 with mine dashcam.

Thanks for the reply. I've looked in the handbook and it does indeed say what each fuse does but not for the empty spaces. Yes I could piggy back another fuse but just wondered if I could use an empty slot. Where did you put the earth cable by the way? And did you need to use the ferrite magnet thing to stop interference with your radio signal?

I fitted the earth to one of the bolts holding the fuse box to the car.

I didn't use a hardwire kit as such, but wired in another power socket inside the glovebox and used the cable that came with the cam, it's better shielded than the hardwire cable.

You can run the cable up inside the seal on the door jam (the edge just peels back) right to the top of the A pillar cover, then under the top edge of the cover, then up under the front edge of the headlining.

In the front of my 4x4 I've an A118C cam, it's a cheap cam but works ok

I've ran another power cable to the rear and run a Mobius cam attached to the "Panda" trim on the top inside edge of the tailgate.

In our Pop I've fitted a 0805 mini cam, same extra power socket in the glovebox.
The 0805 cam quality is a lot better, but a little fussy to set up correctly.

Can't remember if there were bolts immediately visible around the fuse box, if there were, I think they were going into plastic so couldn't see if they were earthed anywhere. I did see a metal box behind the flappy bit of trim/insulation with a couple of nuts I could undo a touch and screw the earth there, assume that would be ok. What sort of power socket did you add? USB or cigarette lighter?

If I remember correctly, there's three socket cap bolts holding the fuse box in.
Two at the top and one bottom right, this latter one is what I used as an earth.

I used a rubber capped, water proof lighter type socket, fitted through the gap in the fuse box cover in the back of the glovebox.
It's just loose in the glove box, but I wanted the ability to add and extend to it was double plugs, USB adapters etc.

Excellent advice, as I worked out eventually. Those cheap Chinese 12v-to-5v USB converters broadcast noise like bar stewards and should only be used when you absolutely have to. IF you do need to have them, you need to use one or two of those Ferrite Noise Shields (little, inch long or so plastic covered magnets, in two halves that sit around the output wiring), or you run the risk of never picking up a decent radio signal again, ever....
