We have just bought a 2012 Panda Pop 1.2.

Having come from a (subtle modded) Diesel beast (180 bhp VECTRA with shed loads of torque, I was ARO on vectra. Com) I have been pleased with the way she drives around town.

What I can't get my head around is the lack of remote locking.

I can accept basics but I am too lazy to turn a key!

I have looked on forums but can't find a definitive yes or no. We have motors in all the doors, (she locks as you drive away):) but no button on the dash:(.

Can I retrofit a module to give Remote Central Locking? Opinion seems divided.

I would prefer to use fiat parts even if it means adding an alarm or whatever.
Does any one have a friendly parts department they use? One that isn't staffed by teeth sucking muppets that don't know their posterior from their arm joint.

If someone can help with advice I will quite happily produce a 'how to do' type guide.

Cheers

If it's the same as my Panda, just manually lock the driver's door from the inside and all doors lock. Just push the handle in.

I know I can lock the doors from inside. I want to remotely lock unlock the doors using a fob. Thanks for your reply though.

Yep. As basic as a basic thing can be! Great little character though. Just need to get my head around the remote door locking.

I know I can go into the door lock wiring and switch that using a universal remote but would prefer to keep it as original as possible.

Well, you have a solenoid in the driver's door (unlike most basic 169 Pandas), so that's a start.

I don't know if remote locking versions use the same body computer, or whether the wiring for the remote sensor is already in place. Certainly any OEM remote will need programming to the car; AFAIK there are no generally available third party tools capable of doing this.

Just the remote & programming will be c.£250 from Fiat, even if the rest is straightforward.

One way to get an idea of what's involved and whether it's feasible would be to get a quote for the work from a franchised dealer. I'm sure lots of folks here (myself included) would be interested to know the outcome of such an enquiry.

I appreciate your wish to keep everything original, but IMO tapping a third party remote into the existing wiring would be a far simpler and more cost effective option.

As basic as a basic thing can be!

It's all relative.

Compared to my first car, here's what you have that I managed without :-

power steering
ABS
servo assisted brakes
disc brakes at the front
central locking
electric front screen washers
powered front windows
door mirrors
heated rear window
rear wash
rear wiper
seat belts
fabric covered seats
radio
heater
five speed gearbox
front head restraints
collapsible steering column

Doesn't seem so basic now, does it .

Ok so maybe 'as basic as a basic thing' in 2012!

But in my first car ( a 1971 Vauxhall Viva) you could climb into the engine bay literally!

You can't do that in a Panda!
