Hello, my granny has a September 2015 Panda 1.2 POP and it'll be a year old next month - they'll probably call her down to get it serviced etc and talk her into buying a new one... She probably will. She owned my current '05 Panda for years and loved it, but she's not taking to this new Panda as well - especially the lack of remote locking etc and she says it's 'tinny' and 'slow'. Old people don't like change so I dismiss all of that!!!

I'm wondering what will happen, she probably will want to trade it / get a new one or a slightly higher spec one (Maybe even a TwinAir?!)

Will they offer to kindly 'take that Panda off her hands' for a ridiculous crappy price that's worth much less? If so, how much?

It has 7,000 miles now and I spotted one chip in the white paint on the bonnet.

I've saw loads on Motorpoint, with delivery miles for £5,999 - 18 similar ones in fact, so that's how much you can get a registered but almost brand new one. Obviously this'll be much less for a then one year old 7,000 miles one.

How much less? I'm asking because if they try to offer 4,000 (heaven forbid less?!) then I'm tempted to step in and buy it off her!!!

So I'm asking you current Panda owners (particularly those of you with lots of experience over the years of new cars and dealers etc) to help me out on this, as I could get a nice upgrade here at a nice price!

If you shop around, you could likely get a brand new unregistered one for £6999, maybe less if you're very good at negotiating and you get the timing right.

Have a look at the price guide I've attached.

Real trade in value is probably about £5k. But the dealer can use some of the margin on the new car sale to offer a higher figure to make the deal seem attractive. Instead of selling a new one for £6999, they can sell your granny a new one for list price, offer her £6000 in P/X and still be almost £1500 up an the deal. If they can add in some overpriced GAP insurance and some extortionately expensive paint treatment that costs them £15 they'll be two grand up. Then they'll make some more profit on reselling her old one, pricing it well over book and using the list price of a new one to make it seem like a good deal.

Fiat have been offering meaningless P/X deals on grossly inflated new car list prices for decades.

Your best defence as a buyer is to focus on the changeover price.
