2012 Panda 30000 miles

Took mine in for service and MOT this morning.
Last one of "paid for" service contract...

Also, they are going to look at "stuck on" dipped headlamps since
recall upgrade.
Might need to change my trousers for the ones with deeper pockets :)

YAY! it passed...
They did a diagnostic on it to look into the "stuck on lights" problem but came to no conclusion. Sent of to Fiat for info on my behalf...
So, today was a cheap day:worship:

Did a very spirited 400 Km run today, to test the engine with new Uni-Air module. :D
Fuel consumption was around the 32's. (n)

Fuel consumption sounds dandy...... I suppose its a 90hp motor and if you were getting along a bit its just about OK!

I love the EU fuel consumption figures and the government taxation cobblers. How in the name of god can it possibly be reasonable to pay £30 to tax these things when it cost £185 to tax a so called polluting Panda 100HP that could easily do 46mpg driven flat out averaging over 100mph???

Anyone associated with the rules, the tax class, the EU euro bable 1-6 etc should hang their heads in shame, as should Fiat for their bogus claims of 67mpg!

This rant is going to rumble on until 2027 when I intend to change or when the mafia come and silence me! If they do I will come back and haunt them and the internet until the end of time.

Pandatoni is in the back of the garage because its cold and wet. Daughter asked me what the point of a 4WD car is when you put it away in the winter to keep it clean.

I just said Pandas get cold too!

Ordered a Westfalia removable towbar tow yesterday for £120!!! I have triple checked its the right part, but still expect it is for the last version. Fingers crossed. If its right this must be the bargain of the century.

No it was the right one. Result at least £120 save so he now has a dedicated electrics kit on order!

Dr Pandatoni is now a workhorse, albeit a little one.

Dedicated wiring has arrived too and my conclusion is if it wasn't under warranty I would never again bother with this. It is is still going to be a faff to fit and the instructions are poor. I take it the two extra wires (heavy gauge) in the loom are for charging and aux power, but will have to ring the supplier to confirm Also the rear fog wiring requirements are vague so will have to ask about that too. Top value though from ECS Hull.

Makes the EU look like it's doing something..

But for car designers, investors and owners it puts unnecessary pressure on everyone. Leads to lower powered cars that if driven in a lab can produce high figures, but on the road are poorer than older engines (e.g. 100hp Panda!)..

Even the whole DPF and emissions scandals can all be linked back to the fact the manufacturers are being forced to meet figures that the technology can't meet and have resorted to that to make ends meet.

Why a bunch of politicians in a board room can decide on the Euro 1-6 regulations whilst clearly knowing little more than me about engines - and that they have the authority to do it - is beyond me!

Agreed. If the UK and indeed, the powers that be in the EU really want to make a major reduction in CO2 emissions, how about putting a tax on aviation fuel? Even 30 pence tax per litre of aviation fuel will see a colossal reduction in emissions...

Av fuel is cheap comparatively, a 30p per litre increase probably represents a rise of around 100%. Anyway how would that reduce emissions? You’ll just pay more for your cheap flight but you’ll still go wherever you were going!

If the price of flights suddenly shot up, that may make people think twice about going abroad, potentially less planes in the sky, hence lower emissions.

And a massive influx of much needed dosh. If we taxed European car imports and outlawed the Euro exhaust emission equipment from UK roads we would have a real plan!

Changed my Twin-Air spark plugs after work. Such an easy 15 minute job, with the right tools and knowhow.
It also made a noticeable improvement to smoothness of running at low revs - around 1500 rpm.

(actually late yesterday evening) I drove through quite a bit of standing water! Only problem found was noticeable fluctuations in the voltage as alternator got wet - the lights kept dimming, then brightening again:rolleyes:

Yesterday did a run to Manchester and back which is about 400 miles. The weirdness of the engine mapping really showed out. Going up there quite quickly 80-90 on the speedo which is 70-80 in reality) in eco mode just using full power mode on steep hills and if needing to speed up on the motorway / A1 it did 44mpg. Coming home more slowly 60 -75 which is 55 to 70 tops) about 50% in eco mode it did 42mpg. I am not sure the eco mode actually knows what its doing. It does something but doesn't have a clear effect on anything other than the power. I use it more as a speed limiter as it tends to cruise along at about 65 which is more like 58mph. Why on earth can't the fit seats like those in the 100hp??? I never ever got back ache from them. AN accurate speedo wuld go amiss either.

However, the little chap is still appealing and fun to drive even if its tiring. Back to the Bravo for long trips for me it's peerless at that.

Today towbar wiring.

OH and a special thanks to Fiat who have no technical department. " Our dealers are are technical department" Dealer comment Sorry I don't know! We shalls ee if they can answer my question after a bit of research.

Our dealer has got a Google search bar as his home page for exactly that reason. Good to know we're in safe hands.

Hi.
Much colder the last few days and with quite a lot of short runs I see the engine temperature is taking a lot longer to heat up, which is normal. On occasions I have parked after two miles and the gauge is only reading three bars. I'll need to test it on Torq and see the exact reading.
Expect a big drop in fuel consumption on my next fill up.
I wish is has a radiator blind like my 1969 Skoda 1000MB Delux had.
