Panda easy TA lighting probs

Hi all, The lighting system on my car has problems, when I indicate left the headlights come on and indicate right they go off, also had my neighbour tell me I had left my lights on a couple of times and the odd flat battery. The car is approx 2.5 years old and is under the 3rd year dealership warranty. I was wondering if anyone would know what the problem may be , and if faulty electrics are likely to be covered under the dealership warranty or not. Thank you all - Davie

Hi Davie. I had exactly the same problem on my Renault Kangoo van (also after about 2 years). It turned out to be the indicator stalk at fault.. which also controls the lights. Replaced under warranty.

Thank you for the reply Shaston, can I ask was your repair done under the manufacturers or the dealership warranty as I've been told the dealership's doesn't cover much. Cheers Davie

The manufacturers I believe. They didn't quibble it anyway, nor should they.. problems such as that shouldn't happen. Take it to the dealer, see what they say. You'll get plenty of support on here if they're awkward!

Interesting exclamation marks. I walked out of a AC dealers a year or so ago. Vowed never to go near one again.

Heard a few bad reports about their 3rd year dealer warranty, but taking the car in to see what they say!

When you want to turn a corner, the lighting system gives confusing signals to other road users (headlamps flash). Sounds highly dangerous to me. Is it legal to drive a car in that state? Would it pass an MOT test? If traffic police pulled you in for a random check and saw what was happening, would they allow you to drive away?

I suspect the dealer and manufacturer might both find themselves in hot water if they failed to fix this immediately under warranty.

Does the headlights warning tell-tale on the dash come on when this happens ?
If you turn the headlights on, does this 'over-ride' the problem - to get you to the dealer safely ?

It's a no-brainer that this should be covered by the warranty - whether the manufacturer or the dealer element. It's clearly not a service item, or a wear-and-tear issue - an indicator stalk should last the lifetime of the car. It would be a clear MOT fail in its current condition. I'd insist that it's sorted by your dealer ASAP, as it represents a real safety risk.

Thank you all for replies, booked in for next week, chr1s - yes the headlight warning comes on when I indicate left and goes off when I indicate right ,if I just drive with the headlights on everything behaves normally! Also when I have headlights on the stalk will not switch them back to day driving lights. AC said it sounded like a warranty problem but would charge me £96 if not covered -just for investigating!!. Will keep you updated. Davie

That's outrageous. I wouldn't go there on principle if I received a response like that, but I guess they've got a monopoly on Fiat dealerships in certain parts of the UK :(

Happy ending, new lighting stalk fitted under dealer warranty!! Surprised and delighted!!

Yep, clearly a warranty job - no consumable components involved in that one and lights are up there with the things you can rightly expect to work and stay working!

Thanks guys, was worried it would be the usual - wear and tear, not covered. Best wishes Davie

It's a complete unit with all the stalk's on it, not uncommon problem apparently.
Mine has been replaced as well. (late September 2012 car)
In my case lights went off when ever they like and came on when ever they like, could not do anything to change that.
