Hello, We've got a 64 plate Panda 4x4 Ta. A couple of weeks ago we noticed that the brakes were making a noise when reversing down our drive. It didn't bother us too much, because our 100hp did much the same for the 7 years that we owned it. Any way we booked it in to be checked over, just to be on the safe side. The dealership phoned and said that they had changed the pads under warranty because they were of poor quality. They said that they had changed a few sets and this had cured the problem.

Anyone else heard of this?

My 14 plate 4x4 TA started "honking" in reverse.
A sort of rotation based "whoop whoop whoop " as I backed up.

The fronts also felt quite "gritty", a sort of light noisy scraping sound.

I was a bit too impatient to wait weeks for the dealer to look at them, so I had a look myself.

The brakes are built up completely dry and the calipers were starting to stick a little.
A dab of ceramic brake grease on the slider pins and thin wipe of copperslip on the caliper hangers, where the pads touch and it's been fine since.

We had the same with our 4x4 t/a - noisy brakes in reverse. The garage rectified this as soon as we told them - again i think they swapped the rear pads for a new set.

Hi Guys

Just returned from fiat with the same problem,
was told rear brake calipers dry, lubricated with copper slip ,also replaced front and rear pads under warranty 2014 4x4 MJ

All the best
Great service

Easiest way of checking is to jack it up and see if the wheels move freely, I guess. Oh, and to see how much heat your discs are giving off after a run (assuming you've not been doing any heavy braking), as binding brakes will give off a helluva lot of heat.

Joining the club after 4k miles, been told they need to order in some modified brake pads after talking with fiat UK technical, they told me they had only seen this once before and that was yesterday! I showed them this thread and they were stunned!

Had the work done and the problem has been solved, all quiet now and I can reverse in to spaces again without shame!
