I have finally fitted the UR towbar and Right Connections loom to the Panda.

The towbar install was really easy - about 2 hours, taking my time. The only thing was the instructions were a bit vague about how the trailer plug bracket was supposed to be fitted, so it took me a few goes to get it in the spot I thought it should be.

Fitting the Right Connections loom (which UM supplied with the towbar) took me a bit longer - about 3 hours. A few connectors were hard to remove and I soldered other connections as I don't like to leave it to chance with connectors just crimped. But the loom is very well designed and it was mostly plug and play.

The end result is a good fit and looks like it was designed by the factory.

Nice job. Can I ask how much that cost?

I just had a quote of £390 to supply and fit a towbar to my 2013 multijet diesel which seems crazy expensive to me.

Thanks, Tapemonkey.

It was 84 Euro for the bar and 155 Euro for the dedicated Panda wiring kit (universal kit much cheaper though). You will have to check, but I think these prices are without VAT, given that I am out of the Euro zone, I can't find the email where I clarified that point with UM.

UM bars seem much cheaper than Witter and Thule, but also remember my bar is the cheapest design anyway - that is, a fixed swan neck bar. If you want to take the swan neck off, you have to unbolt it. UM also do 'easy fit' swan neck types as well.

I've attached a pic of the Panda hitched up to our camper trailer in our street. The camper's ball weight is too high; it is 95kg when the towbar is rated to 70kg, so I need to reduce ball weight before I tow it anywhere. You can see with the nose-up attitude that it's all wrong, I just wanted to see what it looked like and that the trailer wiring worked.

The very little moving around I did with the 600kg trailer, it seemed like the Panda will do it easily. My only concern is the clutch; I am thinking of a Magneti Marelli throttle box to improve response and reduce clutch slip. You reach a dead point with the throttle and it's hard to let out the clutch until it gets past this and into some more revs/torque.

Well done mate.A very nice looking outfit which I envy very much.Unfortunately the plans of men do not always come to fruition,my plans of future breaks using the panda towing a Racelet Solena trailer tent came to a very sudden end when I presented the idea to HIDs.The response being " I am definitely not going back to sleeping in a trailer tent ".So I wish you all the very best and hope that you enjoy the pleasures your outfit will undoubtedly bring to you.All the very best, Alf Cook

Any bumper chopping required? Could you post up the product codes please? Cheers!

The towbar is a 21040/F. Yes a small amount of bumper cutting was required, and although it has been the neatest bumper cut I've done so far (I've fitted a few other towbars to other cars) it is underneath so if not the neatest job you can't see it anyway.
