General Panda 4x4 or 500X?

Fiat hoping it's their goose that lays the golden egg? At £24k it's going to be pushing £26-27k by the time you've painted it a nice colour and got excited with the options list.

:eek:Blimey! £24K. I too gave the 500X more than a passing thought but more than happy with what the cross offers. Do hope Fiat know what they are doing, this is a very important car for them.

According to Autocar they have tested a version costing £19k, I thought £24k was a bit much.

Typical Autocar first impressions report, I couldn't actually find if it was a 4x4, I suspect not. Fair review though, didn't like the refinement but other than that pretty good.

I was taken aback by this £24k price for the 4wd version, but on reflection I don't think Fiat's pricing is too bad in this instance.

If you take a look at some other similar size 4x4s (like the Qashqai), they are around that sort of price.

IMO the entry level version of the 500X looks good value. Glad to see they aren't making the same mistake as the 500L Pop which is spartan to say the least and offers no options either.

I thought 'ouch' when I initially saw the prices but like others I think it's actually in-line with the market - slightly more expensive to the Juke, Mokka and Captur but cheaper than MINI's offerings, which is probably where the market views a 500 - more premium than a Nissan, Vauxhall and Renault but not as premium as a MINI, so it seems fair.

If you really want it in 4x4 form you'll pay the £24k plus, if you don't then it's yours from £14.5k, and in a decent engine and spec for £19k (based on the 140bhp MultiAir Lounge tested below - PopStar trim will be less) - given my Parents paid £13k for the 500 Lounge TA in 2012 an extra 6 grand for all that extra kit, space and pace seems about fair enough to me.

Auto Express (very surprisingly) really like the MultiAir Petrol

and the range as a whole

but are less convinced by the range topper (the article should be titled Cross Plus rather than Crossover)

Other than the top spec version, they seem to have little qualms about price and generally seem very impressed, particularly with things that Fiat traditionally struggle with such as interior, high speed refinement and decent handling.

I quite like the look of the 500x but I feel once again the fiat marketing department threw a few ideas about then spent the rest of the week down the pub

fiat clearly want a bite of mini's pie, and this seems to be a far more significant attempt at that than the 500L was.

However compared to the countryman, the 500x is a good £2,000 more expensive than the more powerful countryman cooper SD all4

It also lacks a lot of the technological developments that many new cars have such as smart phone integration, automatic parking technology which is now standard on the focus, etc
For a brand new model, fiat have I feel at least just missed the mark, bit more costly, not as powerful, as the mini and not offering the same level of equipment.... In addition mini are launching a new countryman next year (after the new clubman which has recently been announced) as part of a major redevelopment of there models and with all new engines and new technology's pouring out of the mini's I can't see how fiat hope to compete and have come to market with a product that competes with something mini and the others were doing back in 2010.

Having recently been given a new Mini Cooper for a couple of days while our cooper D was in for service, I was amazed at how good the new mini is and really is operating in a completely different level/market to the fiat 500, yet fiat like to try and compare them even their 'Hot' Abarth models, are not a scratch on the 210bhp standard JCW mini's
