A quick update, had the car 2 years mileage is now almost 62000.It has been very reliable, only needed a selector gasket replaced(under warranty) four new tyres and three wiper blades and of course two services.still enjoy driving the car.

Out of interest - doing the miles you cover, why did you go for petrol rather than diesel?

I'd be surprised if a DPF equipped diesel Panda would save you any money over a 1.2 in the UK, regardless of mileage - anything you saved in fuel would likely be swallowed up in servicing and repairs, to say nothing of the substantially greater purchase price.

In places where diesel still costs 2/3 the price of petrol, there may be a better economic case.

The reason for petrol over diesel, the previous two cars i had were both diesel,
a peugeot 306 covered over 200,000 miles with no real problems, next was a Vauxhall Astra bought with 45000 miles on the clock first six months all was fine then over the next eighteen months two starter motors and a alternator then finally the turbo seal went and the engine used up all the engine oil and the repairs were more than the car was worth.

Agreed - Mrs b_u bought a new MJ eight years ago and it was great little car (unfortunately written off after 2 years in the snow on the edge of Dartmoor) - replaced by a new 1.2 as she had finished a daily commute and miles were much reduced. The MJ was very hard on front tyres but was a very willing little beast. I just wondered how the arithmetic had changed in the meantime, partly because I've been considering swapping the 4x4 TA for a Mk3 Cross (as per another thread).

Car has now covered 70000 miles(55000 since i've had it)just had new cam belt and waterpump fitted, full sevice and has been totally reliable.New pads and discs to be fitted on Tuesday these are the first since i've had it, all work now carried out by independent Fiat specialist.
