Just wondering if anybody has managed to haggle any free options when buying the 4x4 on the i-deal low cost finance packages ? I'm guessing discounts aren't available when buying with the low rate finance ?

Cheers

Hi davidc,

I just had a quick look on the Broadspeed website as an example, and they reckon they can sort out at least £1000 off the list price of any of the 4x4 models.

Ultimately I guess it is down to your persistence. The 4x4 models do seem quite popular on here, but the Panda as a whole is very discounted (particularly in 1.2 format).

I'd be surprised if you couldn't get a decent bit off and/or some extras. Hopefully some others will have more recent experience for you though.

You've just got to ring around and ask.
Most dealers will match any offer you find elsewhere, so you can always go back to your local with a printed copy of any offer.

I got a £1750 dealer contribution on my Antarctica because I'm a NHS slave, though not all dealers offer these things unless you ask or the sales person is on the ball.
I believe there are other offers, particularly for public section workers, as the "offers" file the salesman dragged out was pretty thick.

Cars built and in stock will carry bigger discounts than a factory order, so if you're looking at specific options/colours and it needs to be built to order, kiss any discount goodbye.
You might get lucky asking for dealer fitted options for free, but you'll have little luck with factory stuff.

I nearly when down the road of salary sacrifice, where I work offer a scheme where I could have paid the repayments before tax and NI were deducted from my pay, so I would have saved around 18-20% on repayments in the real world. But the cars on offer were all Hybrid, ecomental stuff, just not me I'm afraid.

Basically, ask, ask and ask for discounts, push, push and push for extras, bearing in mind what they can actually do themselves rather than the factory.

The privilege purchase scheme is currently offering £2300 deposit contribution on the 4x4. There are various ways of accessing it, as has been mentioned before. If you are a member of the police, CSMA, NHS, or Fiat Motor Club for example. (y)

Another one is paying a few pounds and joining the British cycling federation or whatever they are called. that will give you 10% off at Halfords too which may or may not be handy?

Thanks, joining the BCF to get a £2300 discount seems almost too good to be true ! I wonder if the deposit contribution can be used on the low cost i-deal finance packages ?

Thanks again.

I don't know what the I-deal package is, sorry!

I do have examples of the privilege purchase scheme though, and the rates are incredibly low! It may be the same scheme?

We got a cracking deal on the Fiat "Affinity" scheme (via NHS). Our Panda Lounge ended up being £95/month, with £1000 deposit from us, and almost £2000 deposit contribution from the Affinity scheme.

You can see the latest affinity offers for the whole fiat range by looking at the attached fiat pdf for July-Sept offers.

Your local dealer should be able to use the ~20% discount as a "deposit contribution" on the finance, and also offer lower %APR as well.

Thanks - yes the rates look the same as the ideal. I'm glad i posed the question !

The privilege deal at the moment looks very good (£2300 dealer contribution to the deposit), but the interest rates are really confusing.

On some projections, some Panda 4x4 models have an APR well under 2%, while others come out at nearly 6%. That makes quite a difference to the overall cost of borrowing over 4 years. But trying to establish what conditions produce the lowest interest rates is incredibly difficult.

I've spoken to 3 different dealers now, and none of them have a clue about how it works! All they can seem to do is to run a projection through their system, & see what figure pops out at the end. Although they must be doing this umpteen times a week, they don't seem to know what combination of conditions (amount of deposit/end-payment/monthly payments/annual mileage) produce the lowest cost of borrowing, which, as a tight b*stard, is the question I really want the answer to!

Won't it depend on your credit rating? The only way you'll find out is by going through the system. Personal loans are offering really low rates at the moment but say rates FROM - if you're the perfect risk you'll get the headline rate, otherwise you'll be offered something different. This is just another form of credit and looking at the ads, rates are going to vary based on your circumstances. Good luck (y)

From what I can see, credit rating doesn't affect the APR on the Privilege Purchase Scheme. Whether you're accepted for credit seems to be a simple binary 'yes' or 'no'. The quotes I was given were all (presumably) on the basis that I could pass the credit-worthiness test. But it's clear that the interest rate varies, depending on the model (Trekking seeks to attract a low interest rate), amount of deposit & end-payment, monthly payment, duration, mileage, etc .

What's not clear (at least to me) is what the optimal conditions are in order to achieve the lowest finance costs!

I had this issue buying my panda a couple of weeks ago. Only by printing of the example from the website and the dealer putting everything the same could they match the quoted interest rate.

I can help with that as I think I've sussed the formula.
As you say different models attract different rates. The multijet panda 4x4 has a much higher (relatively) rate than the twin air 4x4 for example. You can't do anything about that.
What you can do though is meddle with the figures so as to get the best rate for the chosen model.

I found on my 2012 500 and my 2013 panda that by increasing the annual mileage and decreasing the term would lower the gfv. This means less interest as the final balance is obviously lower.

I can't remember exactly what I settled at mileage wise on the 500 but the term was around 32 months. The total interest was £23 over the whole term.

I did a little better with the panda. 30 months and 30k miles a year ended up with total interest something like £5!

Go onto the fiat configure a car web site. Spec your car up, then at the end select the i-deal finance illustration. Input the deposit contribution from fiat as your deposit then play with the term and miles. The interest rate will climb and drop. When you push too far, the interest is negative so they won't allow that.

One thing to remember is the final option to purchase fee £200 odd you can never get out of. Rip off money for nothing if you ask me.

Hello

I am a member of British Cycling and have the latest Fiat price list.

I am interested in a Twin Air 4x4. I just have couple of questions:

1. Is the deposit contribution £1750 or £2300? The price list seems to suggest it could be either (unless I'm reading it incorrectly.)

2. As it is a deposit contribution, does this mean the car needs to be bought with finance? Or can I use cash?

Cheers

Rich

I think the deal is on finance, but I'd call and speak to them and see what they can do on a cash sale.

It's supposed to be a finance deposit, however the wording is 'can also be used for a model upgrade'

I've not tested this one, but to me I'd be saying I wanted a lounge, so I'll use the contribution towards a 4x4.
The finance is mega cheap though, so personally I'd use that instead of my own money anyhow.

As for cash purchase, I'd be tempted to go nearly new. There was a 63 plate 2014 twin air Antartica with only 1400 miles on it last week on eBay. Ex demo at a dealers, £10995. It's gone now though.
