Hi all, new member with a shiny new panda pop. Managed to remove the factory head unit and install a facia trim and the cage for my trusty Sony stereo. But when I plug the stereo into the wiring loom the cd drive whirs and that's it. No lights, no power. Borrowed a fakra(?) adapter from the man at halfords incase it was and earth issue but still now joy. Got conflicting info from halfords staff so wondering if anyone here can shed some light on the problem. I am useless at electronics and wiring and need help and advice desperately!

Cheers

You'll need a patch lead, or to connect the switched live feed on the back of the head unit to the permanent live - this may flatten your battery depending upon the headunit, although my Sony Xplod unit doesn't so you may be ok just doing this. Reason being as the car doesn't have a switched +ve feed. (y)

Thanks to you both for your replies. After much head scratching between me and my dad I've caved in and booked an appointment at a local ICE specialist for them to have a look. Was nearly tempted to head to maplins after looking at the wiring diagram on both stereos but knowing my luck I'd do something stupid like wipe the ECU. I'll pop a thread onto the ICE forum later to see if anyone else has any ideas.

Cheers

It's all in my above post. Have you done as advised and connected the switched signal input in the back of the head unit to the constant live feed???

@ most easterly pandas: apologies for the late reply. I haven't had the time or the nerve to try it yet. I am hopeless when it comes to wiring and electronics. Looking at the wiring diagram for the Sony stereo all I really need is the live feed and the earth connections. I've found the constant live in the panda but flummoxed as to which one is the earth. And how do you swap the connections over? I've tried freeing the points from the multiplug with no joy.

Cheers

What colour was the live wire ?

The constant live was the red and green wire into the multiplug from the wiring loom. There's no ignition switchable 12v supply in the stereo loom as the fitter at the ICE centre told me, he found an alternative ignition switched source to wire my stereo in so I don't have to remember to turn the radio off every time I leave the car. It's a shame I couldn't do it myself but it was well above my novice experience. But my Sony is in and working perfectly now
