General Panda Cross on the way

General Panda Cross on the way

I like the high seating position and the central console of the 4x4 as opposed to just a standard panda, in the end it's a compromise between looks and price as I'm not going to need the full functionality of a 4x4.

I am under the impression that the trekking has the same higher ride height as the 4x4. but 2wd with a bit of extra traction control,

me too, im debating the same issue. I really like the looks of the cross and want 4x4 functionality but the olive trekking interior looks good, i am not really going to be doing loads of off roading and it is so much cheaper to buy than the cross and 4x4, cheaper tax, better MPG and faster 0-62 speed too. eek.

That suggests the olive interior isn't available on the 4x4 - it is, if that makes any difference. (y)

It's only £10 a year tax difference (£30 instead of £20, but both zero in year 1), so not a good reason. Cost could be, but then the 4x4 will retain more of its value long term. ;)

Either is a good choice, but it's 4x4 4me. :)

your right i have seen the olive on the 4x4, i was thinking the tax was £20 and £110 for 4x4 and cross as it is 125gCO2 nearly an extra £10 a month to add to the budget.

do you use the 4x4 function much? my thinking was it would be nice, and the good looks of the cross in my opinion would be worth it. i was thinking if i was to step down from the cross for cost reasons i may as well go for the trekking as it had the higher ride hight which would still be usefull (plus still have the bigger discount, whereas the discount is alot less for lower models)

As far as the 4x4 function goes we don't use it that much.

I say use it- in reality the car decides when it kicks in when used in normal mode.

We use it on tracks round here and have been down severely flooded minor roads, but generally it is the ground clearance that is the useful feature rather than the actual 4x4 function.

A Trekking would do the same job for almost everything that normally gets thrown at it.

If we were heading onto muddy paddocks, towing and so on it might be a different story.

It's not only the 4wd though, the 4x4 TA's 6-speed box is a real boon. On the edge of Dartmoor the 4wd would really come into its own if we have a severe winter, but it's not that significant otherwise, though we do a lot of white road driving in Italy where the 4wd is very useful or possibly essential. The low first gear is really useful for picking your way up or down rough stuff and sixth is great on motorways.

The free then 30 quid road tax gives you a cozy feeling.

(Mine has the olive interior.)

I went for the 4x4 Antarctica last year and have to say I think people underestimate just how good the 4x4 is and how often it actually kicks in to help you out. I've found it's just about unstoppable off-road but more importantly I find that even just pulling away from a tight junction in the wet the 4x4 kicks in and gives that extra safety and confidence of not getting bogged down. On that tight damp corner as well, it just seamlessly kicks in and makes sure there's no drama. Add the extra gear as hi-lighted below and to me it's well worth the extra.

Its a shame the Diesel has not got the 6 speed gear box. im sure that would be a great asset whether better at low speeds or more re;axed on the motorway, depending on how it would be set up.

Apart from the cost factor, I suspect it's a space issue - while the TA engine is short and leaves plenty of room, the MK 3 100HP with the six-speed box has severely restricted steering lock and I imagine the diesel would be even worse.

Although the 6 gears is great on the TA I have to say that personally the top gear could do with being a bit longer so that it was under 3,000 rpm at 70 which I suspect would also make a BIG difference to the fuel economy.

Just saw my first Cross this morning.

It was a yellow one on the back of a car transporter.

Although I got only a quick glimpse I thought that the colour was nicely muted and suited the car well.

I was in the Antarctica, and boy was I glad of that this morning. I was on the back lanes and they were seriously flooded.

I honestly don't think that there is a better vehicle for such conditions, given its ability and compactness on the narrow tracks.

Aha!

(As Alan Partridge would say). :p

"Hello, I’m Alan Partridge. And I’d like to tell you about a very special place. Whether you know it as “East Anglia”, “The Plump Peninsula”, “Home of the Broads”, although that sounds like a refuge for fallen prostitutes. “Albion’s Hind Quarters”, or quite simply “The Wales of the East”. This is Norfolk."

Back of the net!

Going skiing over Christmas - in Italy, could've offered to pick it up!

Dealer just rang, now at code 35. 4 weeks to having a Panda Cross.

Probably.....!

Thats amazing news!
I think u'll have it well within 4 weeks as its left the Naples fiat factory and its on its way to the uk. The next status is 40, arrived in uk. Hope ur dealer doesnt plan to have it in the showroom for a week, letting people sit in it.
I have just text my dealer to get an update, no reply as yet. I really dont think my cross is on the same transporter as yours. If it was I would be so excited.

A bit surprised to be honest but pleasantly so:) Looking like I might pick it up around the weekend of the 13/14th December. My dealer has a retina burn yellow demo (and it drives very nicely) so hopefully nobody else will park their derriere in my welly green example.

Bundes a bit puzzled as to whereabouts of your Cross, we only ordered days apart you would have thought they are on the same boat!
