I'm toying with the idea of fitting winter tyres to my 1.2 Easy as it's getting chilly here in Central Scotland.

The best prices I'm finding are for Avon Ice Touring and Goodyear Ultra Grip 8. Has anyone tried either tyre?

Thanks

I have the Goodyear Ultra Grip 7+, awesome tire.
The Ultra grip 8 have similar performances, would not choose the Avon tire, it's not a premium brand, Goodyear is.

I had the Goodyears on my old Mk3 Panda and they were very good!

Have a look at www.mytyres.co.uk for winter wheels and tyres,

Look at the Wheel and Tyre Packages you can select Fiat and New Panda.

This then gives you all the wheel sizes and offsets you need to know, but also probably the cheapest purchase prices too.

I got a set of wheels and tyres for my wifes Countryman All4 last year went for Hankook Winter ICept RS which had a fuel rating of C and grip of C and were cheap. As a result we get more fuel efficiency in the winter with these tyres than the factory fit run flat summer tyres.

You can cross reference the tyres shown in the complete wheel and tyre section (having determined the size) with the winter tyres only section so you can sort by fuel rating grip, price or whatever is most important to you to make a selection.

But from what I can see a complete set of Hankooks is about £274
The Goodyear £317
And the Avon £302

These prices exclude UK delivery which is about £35.

All of these prices are really cheap!

Oh and the Hankooks were awsome last year, so I can heartily recommend them, but I've never had any other make so can't compare.

I should also add, that mytyres currently state a 4 day delivery (and this is from Germany) - last year it was 5 days, which they met.

The tyres I got were fully fitted and pressured on the wheel so went straight on the car and I fitted them easily with the use of a trolley jack.

Also, the tyres have a rotational direction so you need two left hand and two right hand so to speak, which is what I received.

Can't recommend mytyres enough, did exactly what they said on the tin.

Have used Goodyear ultragrip 8 for the last 3 winters on the wife's 500. They are excellent.

Also have continual winter contact on my car. They are excellent too.

Both from mytyres.co.uk. All delivered on wheels, balanced and ready to put in the car. Excellent.

Also built this stand to store the wheels not currently on the car.

Thanks for all the advice.

In an ideal world I probably would get a complete set of wheels but I don't have anywhere to store them.

I'm thinking I might buy just the tyres from mytyres and get them swapped over. I could store the summer ones in the loft. I'm guessing it's ok to store just the tyres for 6 months?

You need winter tires in Netherlands? Strange.

Here is Slovenia they are required between 15 November and 15 March except for the coast area. But if you have enough profile on summer tires you can use them and carry snow chains in the boot.

Nope, winter tires are a free choice in the Netherlands.
But you need them in Germany, Luxembourg, they are mandatory in winter time. ( No idea of the rules in Belgium)
But better save then sorry, IMHO.

Would it not easier to just stack them up. ?

Yes it would be if you don't mind rotating them every few weeks.

The recommended storage is to deflate to 1 bar and not to support any weight. If they are stacked the one at the bottom takes all the weight and so should be rotated to the top.

They don't recommend stacking 4 let alone 8 high.

The worst thing you can do with tyres is leave them in one position supporting weight. Ask anyone with a trailer or caravan that isn't used often.

Couldnt find TS850 but more than happy with the mytyres price and cashback, will mean my summer tyres will now last until 2015 I hope. Probably will never have the really bad weather down in west Wales but I'm a staff nurse and really need to get to work sometimes and biking in the wildest parts of Wales means I can be assured of no nasty surprises.
