Is it me, or is the blue main beam light as bright as a laser? Drove my new panda in the dark for the 1st time last night and basically had to stick to dip beam due to the excessive brightness of the main beam light in the rev counter... . time for some black tape I think!

It must be a Panda thing, the mk3 suffers with this also, but you soon get used to it :)

Haven't driven mine in the dark yet - we go to bed early in Devon - but that bloody "Shift" light will have to go somehow.

Does the main beam light go up and down with the dash lighting level?

Agree its bright. Will take a bit to get use too.
The dimming function doesn't affect warning lights. :(

yep - i'd noticed that too.

I'm sure it does not need to be that bright!

I found that too. I reckon that on a long trip at night it would be really annoying :-(

If you ever get into serious ecodriving you'll hardly ever see it ;).

The idea is to have changed up before the shift light comes on - if you wait until it illuminates, you've already missed the optimum change point for best economy.

But in fairness to the 99% of drivers who drive in, er, shall we say a more 'normal' way, IMO Fiat ought to make it possible to disable the shift light through the menu system. I don't think it's right for car makers to try to tell us how we should be driving. You earned the money, you paid for the fuel, so why should Nanny Fiat keep nagging you about how you're choosing to use it?

Those who find it useful could always leave it turned on.

I'm learning to ignore the Shift light now, other than as a joke - you're going up a steepish hill and just about to change down and it's suggesting you change up. Its shift points are just crazy, especially when you're running the car in for its first few thousand miles and don't want the engine to labour.

Lol, I think the handbook should have a footnote saying "If you live in Devon, please do not expect the shift indicator to work as intended"...(y)

BTW your comments are exactly the same as the ones I've made previously in our 1.2. Thankfully after nearly 18 months of ownership I don't even notice them any more - hooray!
