Hi

Just been checking the oil on my 4x4 TA this evening. It's now on around 900 miles. I think it's about half empty (hard to actually tell I found). As the 4x4 booklet only mentioned the diesel. Is there a specific oil I can buy or do I need to go to the the FIAT dealer and pick some up ?

Cheers

Phil

That's what's in my TA and what I bought from fiat for a recent oil change.

It's important to use the correct specification of oil in the TA - (ACEA C3 5W40 fully synthetic), but any brand of oil which meets that specification will do just fine & will also protect your warranty.

Castrol EDGE 5W40 meets the spec & is generally available at not too outrageous prices.

Mine is 1/2 way also on the dipstick markings after 3000 miles. However, when I bought my 500 TA, I checked the oil the day after delivery. It was showing 1/2 full. I think they are delivered this way.

Oh that's reassuring. Thanks deeyup I was a little worried.

I went and looked at oil. The edge 5w 40 says turbo diesel on the front label. There's also mobile 1 but that's 0w 40 (it brings back memories of when I used to buy that to do my own oil changes when fully synthetic was very new). What do you think is the best option ?

Get some Selenia K Pure Energy from Shop4Parts. That's what it'll have in it currently and there's now sufficient cases of the MultiAir units failing on bigger engines in the Punto Evo, MiTo and Giulietta to suggest that taking any chance with oil level or type/quality (rumoured to be potential causes of the failures) probably isn't worth it.

Cheers for that. I've ordered some from there.

You're welcome (y)

Not saying other suggestions are wrong, but there's such a lot of faff and uncertainty surrounding correct spec levels for the MultiAir equipped engines (including TwinAir) that I'd just go with Selenia and then you know if something did go wrong, you could do no more to prevent it :)
