General Panda 4x4

Nobody knows.

It's set to be launched this year, which means September, and my guess is that it will be here in April.

Only a guess mind, based on previous launch sequences :D

I'm looking forward to the new-style 4x4 as I think the chunkier looks of this model will suit it better. Also I might be thinking about swapping the 100HP in a year or so's time.

Timescale sounds reasonable. Fiat is still selling the "old" 4x4 in Europe but they must want the new one to be available soon - I just hope they have a lower-spec diesel option for the UK market instead of limiting us to the (sorry folks) tarted up one that we had previously. Don't think they will, though.

I want to replace my Panda Cross but I'm frustrated by the lack of information regarding the new Panda in 4x4 form.
In addition, I've not been impressed by the build quality of the Cross, in comparison with the Climbing I owned previously.
I don't really want another "budget" 4x4 that is tarted up, I want something very simple that I can leave in a car park and not worry about the inevitable bumps and scrapes that occur.
I'm looking forward to the launch of the Dacia Duster in the UK. Now that should be a budget 4x4, bigger than the Panda, which will suit my needs. I just hope that Dacia don't insist on the 4x4 version being supplied with a lot of worthless "bling" which will make the car pointlessly expensive.

Don't see me ever buying a Dacia but I agree 100% otherwise.

Check the Dacia/Renault site. There is a French forum too, if you can manage the French. You can sign up online for advanced information. The first Dacias should be arriving in the new year. There are two versions, with either 2 or 4X4. They also come in three trims, rather like Fiat. The basic ones don't have A/C and a very few other things you might need, but they are very good cars and selling well in Europe, particularly in Germany and France. A Luxemburger friend has one and loves it. The basic version will arrive here at less than £10,000. They have the latest Renault 1.5 Diesels.

My concerns relate to the DPF, which is under the car and not by the exhaust manifold, so i wonder at the thing clogging if not used regularly on longer journeys. Also, the body is not galvanised, although there are plenty of old Renauts and Toyotas around with no rust, so perhaps that is no concern?

The new Dacias do much better than Fiat in the reliability scales on the Continent, so you shouldn't be concerned about reliability. The Duster is also a decent size and has very good ground clearance. I looked at a few in Morocco (where they are also built) and was impressed.

At a similar price to the Panda 4x4 the Dacia Duster should prove to be very competitive.

The British ones are going to be built in India if that matters.

Got buzzed by a Duster 4x4 on the way back from France on Monday and it looked really good. chunky and chubby in a Panda 4x4 kinda way and with surprisingly good ground clearance. If they really do sell for the projected £10-12k in the UK, I reckon they could take some of the Panda 4x4 thunder when it starts to rumble next year.

Definitely Ringa.

They have very similar underpinnings to the Qashqai and share the 4X4 system.

The Panda will be fantastic I'm sure, but the Duster will have other qualities, including volume, robustness and simplicity.

All the interior bits, like switches A/C etc. are Renault sourced. Not necessarily the most up to date, but do we care...

I'm a great Fiat fan, but we need to be sensible here.

I note that the very latest iterations of the 1.5 Renault Diesel are very economical, more so than the Duster, so I wonder if there will be any improvements before it arrives here. It already has a modfied dashboard?
