That got your attention. As the new Panda is due to be launched next year, I'm surprised that there haven't been any sneak photo's yet. Have I missed anything? I've seen the artist impressions and photographs of alleged 'mules' but that's it. Surely there should have been at least a sneak by now.

I made a post a few weeks ago about the current shutting down of production on the current Panda.

https://www.fiatforum.com/panda/245743-signs-fiat-wrapping-up-production-current-panda.html

For a start if Fiat do decide to build the new Panda in the old Alfa factory they have to refit it for a start. Fiat are also currently arguing like crazy with Italian unions over some sacked workers. With everything going off in Italy I find it unlikely that the new Panda will be with us in 2011. Its certainly looking like 2012 before it sees daylight. I am only interested in the sports model and who knows when or even if we will see that.

Umm there's no evidence that Fiat are wrapping up Panda production at Tychy. Yes it's true the next gen Panda will not be made there but there is no evidence that they're wrapping up production....

New Panda is going to be made in Pomigliano d'Arco, but the current one will continue to be made at Tychy.

Well theres certainly evidence that Fiat are wrapping up on certain models of Panda like the 100HP. There have been various posts regarding letters that Fiat have sent out to dealers about last orders for certain models. The new enforced legislation that comes into force next year is killing off lots of cars. The Focus ST and RS and Civic Type R for example. I think only the Active and Dynamic will be sold next year.

That's EuroV compliance, not killing off a model, just certain engines.

I'm wondering now if FIAT will continue to run the old Panda alongside the new, much like Renault did with the Clio?

I can't see them being much demand in the UK but certainly in poorer countries they may continue to make both. The original MK1 Panda was produced well after the Cinquencento was introduced.

The Fiat Uno is even still in production! This is FIAT. You can guarentee in 2050 some African state will be producing the MK2 Panda in the milions as their that country grows!.

Even the FIAT 124 is still in production in some form!

The 100hp isn't exactly filthy though is it?? Nearly half that of an rx-8 and evo's etc. (Yes I know the rx-8 is going..!).

There's been virtually nothing in the motoring press regarding a new Panda yet, and the current one appears to still sell reasonably well even in the UK, so i'd imagine it does even better on mainland Europe. Fiat would be nuts to try and rush through a less than perfect replacement when the current one is still upto the competition and when theyve more pressing issues to resolve, such as Italian worker/union rows, less than perfect sales in other areas of their range and the relaunch of the brand in the USA.

I reckon mid-late 2012 at least before the UK gets a new Panda. They need to push the Bravo/Doblo/Qubo and Alfa ranges more first.

Its probably highly unlikely that I will buy another Panda or Fiat for that matter. Now before you jump all over me for that let me explain. I love my 100HP its a fantastic car. In a few years I know I will be ready for something with more power though. However with the Abarth 500 its unlikely that Fiat (or Abarth) will make a Panda with a lot more power. If they did it could affect the sales of other cars in the Fiat group.

If they do make another sporty Panda IMO I think it will have either the same power or a little bit more or less. So if I want something with more poke I dont want a Panda. As for other cars in the Fiat stable none of them appeal to me like the Panda.

Don't worry you are not alone. I bought the 100hp because it's a driver's car, not because it's a Fiat and it's what I could afford at the time. I will however be looking for a replacement with twice the power and razor sharp handling, nothing in the Fiat range at present is of interest in that respect. I really don't get the whole sticking to one marque aspect.

The Alfa MiTo and Giuletta QV models are pretty smart, 170 and 240hp respectively. Not to mention the inevitable GTA models ;) But you'll be paying for the prestige-branded badge on those, of course...

Any particular cars you have in mind? The upcoming Toyota/Subaru FT-86 has me hoping Toyota will relive some of the glory days of the MR2, Supra and early Celicas. The hot-hatch Citroën DS3 is tasty with 150hp and I've heard rumors of a 200+hp rally-inspired model as well. And of course, you've got the Mini Coopers and the hot Renaults and so on.

Who says you can't buy fun cars anymore?

(Says the guy who's just bought a motorcycle because cars in his price range are all dull...)
