hey i know this is probably a stupid question but where is the best place to get the power from the car to a stereo from on the car?

is it ok to wire it straight into the battery? i always thought it had to be run through the fuse box etc?

Hang on! All Mk2 Pandas came with a positive and negative wire for a stereo. If there has never been a stereo in your car then the wiring will be tucked up into the dash. Your best bet is to drop the parcel shelf down (3 screws on each side) and have a good look. If it's not there then remove the front of the dash (1 screw on each side and 3 screws underneath), they'll be there somewhere. You're looking for a red wire (positive) and a black wire (negative).
