I've been in touch with HerpsUK about the doors from his Panda but wanted to ask a question before we go any further. The doors I'm thinking of replacing eventually are Mk 2 but have the plastic strips on the outside. I seem to remember reading somewhere on here that those doors are slightly different in order that the strips can be fitted. Is that true or am I imagining things?

Doors are the same and are interchangeable on the MK2. The doors with the plastic side protector trims will have a series of 8m/m holes drilled for the trim to mount onto. You will have to drill the holes yourself and transfer the mounting buttons from the old door onto the replacement. Take great care when marking out the holes, they must be level and in line, or the trim will not fit properly.
Rgds.

Cheers. Sorry if I'm being slow, but this means that I would have to drill these holes in the replacement doors. Would that be easy enough?

How hard is it to drill a hole?

Not difficult at all, what matters is getting it in the right place.
Rgds.

getting the holes right is very tricky measure twice drill once! also i have found in the past that the moldings dont sit flush unless you tap the door in a little where the hole is. the clips that hold the trim on are secured with a plastic peg down the middle knock this out before you try to remove them im not sure if the clips are still avaliable from fiat but i think they are the same as the ones that hold the trims on the back doors of a peugeot boxer van.

they are pretty hard to remove from your own doors, but if you are replacing due to rust... damaging them isn't a big deal really...

Thanks for the advice everyone. My first reply looks a bit dim Petel, but it was made before the edit:eek: I'm not sure I'm quite ready to tackle this yet - my existing doors are going but not quite gone. maybe I should wait to find some the right colour, but the right colour with holes in would be like trying to find the Holy Grail... A little rumination I think!

This is a really dim question but I have been reading other posts where it talks about sliding the trims off towards the front of the car. But before this can be done the pegs have to be pushed through from inside. Is that right? I can't remember seeing them when i've been playing around inside the doors but maybe I just wasn't looking.

Yes, there is a proceedure for removing the trims in order not to damage them. When you are ready to do the job, let us know.
Rgds.

:D The plastic pegs are still available from Fiat if you are dead stuck I bought aload just incase. The plastic trim is best pushed forward with the palme of you hand and I found better with the door part open so trim does not bump into front small plastic trim(y)
