does anyone know if the
fiat uno 1.7D
or
fiat fiorino 1.7 TD engine
would fit a panda 4x4 gearbox ??

i would LOVE a 1.7D 4x4 panda !!

enlighten me !!

thanks everyone

Surely the suspension in the front wouldn't be up to it, you'd be driving down the road scraping along on your front bumper!

Are you planning on using it off road? If not then you can get lowering kits which will have stiffer springs (Although still designed to take the weight of the original engine)

i agree, all the suspension would need to be stiffened. The chassis would probably flex from the weight of a large diesel engine as theyre not very stiff anyway. More importantly, the gearbox would almost certaily have to be changed as the torque from a TD engine would shave the teeth off all the gears!
Its obviously possible though, you can put any engine in any car if you have the time, money and knowledge. My dad's got an audi tt turbo engine in his VW Scirocco. It has a gearbox from a passat in it to take the power, as the original 1.6 vw gearbox would just not handle it. The panda's engine bay is large for what it is though, so i dont think it fitting in would be a problem

Problems aside, you would have an awesome machine out of it!

true about the front suspension,
but im sure with some stiffer springs.(maybe froma a diesel uno)
it would be ok,
and the extra torque, i really dont think would be a problem. ????
well it would be if you used the 1.7Turbo diesel.

but if i was going to do it, i would deff use the 1.7 standard UNO engine.
which is 60BHP, compared to the 50BHP of the 1000 4x4 engine, i think that would be ok.

but my question still stands !
would the 4x4 gearbox fit onto the engine ??! ( 1.7D non turbo )

cheers

if i remember rightly form the days when the only counter i propped up was tha parts dept!!
there was a deisel panda about 1.3 maybe
it was a euro spec, so not available here. Might be worth researching gents

No

The bhp may not be that different but the torque is, it would soon kill the panda box.

bugger, knew someone was going to point out,
that the BHP aint much more, but the torque would be !
i was ignoring that in my head !

and i suppose you could fit a panda spline clutch, and then use a very well engineered sheet of 3mm steel as a huge washer/convertor.
but the gearbox axle would then be 3mm less into the clutch, and you would have to make a starter motor mount. and a new engine mount.

a very rare euro 1.3 panda block may fit the box,
but that sounds liek alot of work for a not very good engine !

ah well.
