hello panda people,
just a question that will get you all thinking hopefully??:p
i have recently bought a panda from ebay, nice cosidering it cost me 47 quid:)
to cut a long story short, i have owned four panda's so far in various models and modification 2x d plates 1x L plate(R.I.P) and the last being a k plate
anyway upon servicing the little gem, i noticed the cat isnt where it should be:eek: all of the panda's are 1000cc fire petrol's and all but the new one has the same layout of exhaust
my old L reg (rest her soul) had a cat midway back near handbrake, my new K plate has the cat?? or muffler?? mounted directly under the manifold where it goes 4-2 and the output of the Cat/muffler is the single.
This engine is injection according to the air cleaner cover, yet it looks less like an injection than my L plate panda
any ideas, can it be the first of the injection cat models? that was boshed together and the L plate car was the refined article?
any info appreciated

Is there an O2 sensor attached to the cat?

The first models of most cars with cats were not controlled by O2 sensors but were just stuck on so to speak. Those type of cats can be removed and replaced with normal pipe and do help remove restricted flow

Excuse me for my ignorance; but aren't 'Cats' those furry things that you sometimes run ove,r causing your treads to block up and the car to slide for a short while ?

it's been known for people to have started the engine with a cat warming itself ... plenty of choke and throttle action...

The K plate is fuel injection. The manifold/cat was fitted as there was not clearence under the car due to the gear linkages. They then changed the L reg panda to a cable/rod gear linkage that runs instide the car, giving the extra space to fit a conventional cat under the car.

Hope this helps... cheers Damon

You learn something new every day ;)

thankyou for the info, got me worried that it was a bit of a parts special.

is the 6 speed box from the punto a cable linkage or a rod version??:D

It's a cable job I believe. Apparently you also need a combination of punto and Panda mounts and steering lock can be cut due to the extra length.
