Hey guys,

Just wondering how fast you've got your Panda's up to? I managed to whip my totally standard Panda 999cc up to an estimated 110mph on the motorway a few weeks ago! I say 'estimated' cuz the speedo only reads up to 100 :D

Anyone been faster in a bog-standard Panda?

Mike

I only dream of mine going that fast. I don’t think the four speed 750 powered machine will ever see speeds that fast. I usually only go around 70-80km/h. It is not to fast, but I don't have to far to go (slow and steady I guess). Since you wrote I now want to try and see how fast it will go.

I think your speedo is not very precise, as the declared top speed for your (and mine:p) model is 140Km/h, which corresponds more or less to 87mph[}:)]!I can add I launched my Panda some days ago after an injector cleaning, and it reached the 150kmh mark, then confirmed by a friend of mine who was running nearby with a Ford Focus;).The end of speedo's scale can be reached only with the 1108cc engine (54Bhp):)

va va vroom, I did 85mph on the M1 once in the G-Reg CL1000 I used to have - god it was scary, the whole thing felt like it was about to explode! Did get a few shocked looks from the breemer crew (BMW) and corsa boys [}:)]

I had an indicated 86 out of the 750, just the once mind you, to see what it could do, I normally cruise at 55, quite quick enough, thank you.[8)]

Admittedly, I was on a slight downhill gradient on the M27 at the time, but it still counts! The car used to nudge 90mph on the flat, until I decided (for the speed test) to pump the tyres up to the laden pressure, and now the car will nudge 100mph on the straight and level. I'm still amazed that a 1.0 litre engine can accomplish this!

I wondered if the speedo was over-reading, but at the national limit the Panda seems at the same speed as the rest of the traffic, so I guess the speedo is reasonably accurate. BTW, the car feels fantastic at that speed, like the engine has found a 'sweet spot' in the rpm range. Goodness only knows how hard it is actually revving though...

SteveC - rest assured that I don't drive like that all the time!! I've only tried it twice, simply out of interest. Whilst I don't really feel any affection for my Panda, I certainly don't want to kill it either!

I've got a rev counter on my modded panda.
See www.thomassoft.com/pandapower/
It also has a piper cam and loads of other goodies.
According to this I do about 20mph per 1000 rpm.
Theoretically, at 6500 revs I should get 130 out of it. I have had it up to 120mph on a long slightly downhill stretch of road at 3am.
And it felt like it!:D:D:D

ps. This car is now for sale. See the for sale section.

I got an indicated 97 (!) out of my marbella 903, straight after a service. Luckiliy I changed the brake pads a week earlier.
It was very scary, wouldn't corner at that speed.

3 years of ragging and no more than a water pump has had to be replaced.. 115mph is my top speed.. yes the meter is accurate (i've checked it) and yes a 1L panda's can do this speed.. mines a 999cc fire fuel injection (basically the econo punto engine). A 1L engine in a car made out of metal that is essentially glorified foil is obviously gonna go! (very light). For the record no speed limits were abused here. This was done on the german autobahn. And yes it will burn off your dirty bad boy nova from the lights too ;p

115 !!!!!!! just been for long run the day and most off it was on the a9 in scotland and on the motorway ,anyway me mate was in his volvo and i managed 100 on the motorway in my 903 dance .and my arms are killin me but it was in a car that has termastat probs ,in need of new plugs etc but it was worth it just to see the looks on other drivers when in the fast lane they are passed by in a panda with a blow at the manifold , closely followed in a bright red volvo 480 tryin to keep up .oh wot fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but damn scarey !!!!!!!!

ive got 87mph outta my 900cc panda. i go at least 80 every time i go down a 70mph limit. she dont complain at all n its not scary. doing a 18o handbrake is scary mind you. it amost rolled. mind you i dont have any back seats in it now.hehe

I got an indicated 84mph out of my 750L. with a bloody good service and the wheels balencing, in sure it can get to 90mph :) watch this space!!!!....

panda 750L *fastest thing with four cylinders*
peugeot 309 1.1xe *fastest thing with no cylinders*

I've got it WAY off the scale once. (est. 170 / 175 km/h on the speedo) But that was on a very steep hill though.

Highest speed ever achieved on a road was 150 km/h on the speedo. I was driving pretty close to a big BMW. I'm sure that helped. :)
