I've just put £20 @ 85.9 per litre in on a near-empty tank (light's been on for about 20 miles or so) and I'm going to make this last as long as possible. No more aggressive starts and going round corners on what feels like two wheels!

Current mileage is dot on 52300. I'll report back when I run out of juice!

My selecta manages 40mpg around town, but 45mpg on a long run (used to be better on a long run with the old lambda sensor ).

I'm going to guess at 260 miles for your £20.
My best so far is 63 MPG, but that's cheating...

Wife and I drove back home from honeymoon at Bettyhill (north coast of Scotland) to Penrith in a 45 Super quite a few years ago. We started with a full tank and drove through dense fog for almost the entire journey so never got above 45-50mph. Distance was about 380 miles and I remember the fuel light came on for the first time as we came off the motorway at Penrith, reckon we must have got at least 65mpg Also remember being totally knackered after driving in those condition, although could have been the honeymoon

the 45s I drove to spain in did something like 60mpg and we were driving as fast as the traffic in france and spain would allow.

True, but it's more weight, so could reduce MPG.

(I don't plan on running until I splutter to a stop by the way. I'll just play chicken with the fuel light until I can't take it any more.)

I filled my mobilephone with unleaded and it didn't work - but when I put batteries in it ! Hey Presto!

Last summer I did a run from London to Manchester and back, plus some town driving in my 1.0 litre Uno FIRE. Filled the empty tank up to the brim, cost me £26 then did 400 miles before I filled up again. Working out the MPG from the price of fuel at the time I averaged about 60mpg

Most of the driving was on motorways where I was cruising at 70 - 80 mph. Not bad for a 20 year old Fiat
