i have rang up Benfield Fiat in Newcastle (excellent dealer) for the timing belt and tensioner for the selecta, and the parts guy says the tensioner is only £12.61, but the belt is £21, so i was wondering if anybody could tell me how long a timing belt lasts, as i am thinking of reusing my old one which has done 21000 miles. also i have been told by a fiat specialist that the pulleys will need changing, and i will need a timing locking tool, is this right?

Assuming that you do not know the previous history of the belt, Fiat say to change belt at 60,000 miles, not a bad idea to change the tensioner at the same time. Pulleys do not require changing, unless damaged in some way. No locking tool required. Pay attention to timing marks for pulleys when removing belt.
Rgds.

on a cento theres 2 holes in the tensioner and you put a fiat tool in to apply tension to the belt... if you havent got one you can give it some b0ll0cks with a long bar while you get a mate to tighten the nut :)

There is no need to do the belt tight its a toothed belt not friction like the alternator. You should be able to get half a turn on the belt over the longets point(between the waterpump and the camshaft pully. One person can do it easy.
