Smile Fog light problem

Hello there

I am putting a 1992 Panda 750 back on the road but I am having a problem with the rear fog light. I have no light on the dash and (obviously) no rear fog light when I switch it on. The indicators / brake lights / reversing light all appear to be fine - is the fog light on a separate circuit / fuse? Any ideas?

Thanks very much

Re: Fog light problem

On my 1990 1000s the the rear fog light shares the fuse for the LH dipped beam

Re: Fog light problem

Check the earth contacts under the bonnet as well.

Re: Fog light problem

If the earth is poor under bonnet it could affect the panel lamp as they share a common earth, but this would affect the other panel lights also. The rear lamp cluster won't be affected by this as it has its own earthing point - and this can be discounted as the other rear lights (and presumably their respective warning lamps) aren't affected. When I first got my Panda the panels lights lit up like Christmas some dim some bright - this was due to under bonnet bad earth. The others were 'finding' earth through the rear screen demister circuit - I remember this well, for in disconnecting the amp tag to it I managed to pull the whole mount away from the glass!! ...still works though (well 5 out of the 9) though as I wedged it back on just under the lip of the screen rubber ...all good fun!

Re: Fog light problem

Thanks everybody for all your help.

After I found the fuse box (not where the haynes manual said it was), I had a look at the fuses which all seem ok. However, the fog light on the instrument panel goes off when I select full beam lights - is this right? The fog light is also not working (but as I said the panel light does comes on except when full beam is selected) but I have put this down to needing a new bulb which I will try tomorrow. Would appreciate your thoughts on the full beam / fog light indicators on the dash. Cheers.

Re: Fog light problem

Thanks Alan, sounds like just a new bulb is needed now (fingers crossed)

I know all about dodgy FIAT electrics as I had an old uno!

Re: Fog light problem

Assumed you'd checked the bulb!
I had an Uno -1100 (D reg) - wasn't old when I had it, but still had them thar dodgy 'lectrics (and lock problems now I come to think of it...)
Your prob. could simply be down to bad contact (usually between earth part of bulb and what it's supposed to contact to - this happened with my indicators recently, where only half of the sleeve for the bulb is metal - there is a small 'prong' (for want of a better word) but as its only soft steel, has no springiness to it so even bending it in slightly didn't really help.
good luck with the bulb! ...and let us know when you get it back on the road!

Re: Fog light problem

Bulb looked ok so did not think it was that, so could be contact / earth (but will get some spare bulbs tomorrow as it looked well past it's sell by date!)

My Panda has been off the road for nearly 2 years now, but it is a lovely looking car with just 35K on the clock and just needs a little tlc. Not too much rust too speak of either - just a bit of a leak on the driveshaft to sort out (but that's another story) and then hopefully it's MOT here we come

Thanks again

Re: Fog light problem

Pandarus - sounds like you got a good 'un there I've done the inner boot on mine - wasn't a difficult job (would've been a lot easier if I'd not seperated the bearing from the boot ) - as I then put it on the wrong way round!!!

Alan, I had problems with the locks on the Uno - one door locked and couldn't be opened - I sawed through the pin mount on the post in the end! and the ignition lock barrel went tits up leaving her stranded...
I do have a bit of a prob. with the Panda in that I've no key for the pss. door as when I got it there was just a hole where the barrel should be and my brkrs yd don't keep keys... the driver's door has been changed but I do have a key for that and the ign key opens the hatch so I get by ok... a matching set of locks is like luxury though...

Thumbs up Re: Fog light problem

Thanks guys, all sorted - it would appear the problem was a dodgy earth and a knackered bulb. I love the forum and will be checking in to sort out all my other panda problems! Cheers again.
