Panda (Classic) Restoring my first Fiat!

Introduction

Hi all, just registered here since I'm suddenly a Fiat owner after a few drinks on the bank holiday Friday and Fleabay being far too accessible on my phone. Always fancied a 4x4 Panda, and this one came up locally for cheap. So much for my one-out-one-in garage rule :D

It's got a fair few dings and has been off the road since 2002 (used as a farm runaround since then it seems, though only ~40k!).

It hasn't got any rear seats, and the bonnet is knackered after someone broke into it with a monkey wrench (probably something to do with the missing spare wheel ). Also missing a wing mirror and other things that fly off when you're ragging round a farm. Fair share of holes too, but I have old Fords so just another day in the office for me :p

Sorry for off topic but things which I don't like on FB group are:
- certain type of users (youngsters) can't spell correctly in their national language - constantly cutting corners and abbreviations all over.
- certain type of users (youngsters) need parts for 'yesterday', they don't realized how classic/retro car world works or opposite - they don't realized that brake pads are available through local motor factors.
- certain type of users (youngsters) can't even describe correctly what they are asking for, by giving absolutely zero details and expecting facebook fairy to fix their cars with her magic wand.
- the wall can't be backdated, so pointless adding vital technical information's other then just day to day conversations, interesting links, news etc.

Gosh, me sounds like old grumpy man!
Sorry if someone find this offensive but that's probably not only my view.

I personally think that the Facebook group has killed off a lot of the forum traffic, which I don't like as there used to be a lot more banter on here.

But there are Panda owners who use both, without the other so it's getting the desired effect.

Anyway we should not be interrupting this chap's thread for this discussion!

Kolza you old b...tard you must be like me 62 grey hair, hearing aids on a bad day and teeth that can't strip the plastic off a piece of Fiat wiring or eat a sandwich with a crust on the bread.

Happy Days.
Have a good weekend all Fiatisti!
Dave

Forums are classic tinternet for me, much prefer them. I'm a tech hippie so not a huge fan of these everything-in-one-place-then-sell-your-data sites like Facebook, YouTube, etc. I have registered a fake account on FB just for the Panda group though (I'm Honald Toolhardy), parts are more important than principles at the mo!

Anyway I'm off on holiday tomorrow so no progress probably until later next week...

Work's kept me away from the Panda this week unfortunately. Parts are piling up though :D Also managed to get those bull bars off the seller for £60, picked them up this morning.

I've just started using a Panda after is was laid up since 2003.

Had far fewer minor breakdowns that I would usually expect, although the front (and rear) wiper stopping during a violent downpour had the potential for a crisis.

Wiggled the fuse................... and all was well.

Panda's are just funny. Enjoy

Hi all, work has kept me away from the Panda most of the time, though I have fully restored one front wheel arch - forgot to take pics but will take some soon.

Now a question - can anyone tell me what colour code my Panda is?! Can't seem to find any classic Pandas in silver that look different, so I'm guessing it's a single silver colour, but I can't find a code anywhere (even with the VIN plugged into EPER).

Some gnarly pics of the rust in the rear floor pan and chassis to come...

Might be wrong, but I thought the paint code was on the inside of the tailgate.
Maybe it is so old the sticker has fallen off.
Good luck with it
Dave

Updates!

I've got the Panda up on my new chassis roller, which is making life rewelding the underside a lot easier.

Have cleaned up the N/S wheel arch and got new metal in. More pics to come.

I've also hammered the rear boot hinge back into shape. Currently waiting for a lick of paint on them to dry.

Besides that I've cut out a lot of the rear floor pan (was worse than I thought). Oh and I'm going to buy new sills for both sides since I'm having to cut them off to get behind anyway

Rear suspension mount was so scary I decided to do the sills instead. Gonna pull off the leaf spring tomorrow and attempt to show it who's boss :worship:

gimmiemorefiats: Will do!
lukmek: Thanks! I've actually managed to get ahold of the exhaust rubbers and indicator lense. What I really want is someone doing leaf springs for a good price :D

Got fed up using angle grinders so I bought a plasma cutter off fleabay. Suspension mount blown away! Time to start rebuilding.
