Head cleaning

Hey Panda Peeps I got a techy question, how would you clean up an alloy cylinder head mating surface (no dirty jokes please) when you are not planning on having it skimmed. I take it sandpaper might scratch it badly.
Another thing is when cleaning up the block surface is it bad so much sandpaper crud will end up going down the oil feeds. I cant see how you would avoid as its so small and you cant go 'round' the feeds.

Re: Head cleaning

to clean up the head of my 1108 FIRE unit, i used neat stp injector cleaner and a green pad.

i was told using a block of solder is a good idea as well, plumbers solder - because its soft so wont scratch anything.

Re: Head cleaning

I too would get it skimmed. Nine out of ten times you will end up doing the job again on these heads. I have sent off many heads and personally did never have a skim done that was wasted money.

Re: Head cleaning

The best way to avoid oil feeds is to fill the hole with grease. But i'd have the head checked and skimmed every time.
