First off, huge thanks to Mirko @Kestrel and Marcone over on the Italian Forum for tons of help with this. Will be posting on the international section too to say grazie.

So, I have a new *old* car....

I have a few photos but am going to add only one for now.

Any guesses? What's the car and what's the switch do?... Have to say it's one of my favourite parts of the car (and it even works!)

posh y10 4WD (y)

Yes indeed. Well guessed all. Various things don't work (all will be satisfying to fix), but the wonderfully over-engineered contraptions for opening the rear quarter lights work perfectly and make me smile.

Fantastic!

I was a bit miffed that Gertie didn't have the rear window openers!

Is this your Italian holiday car then or are will you be importing it?

Oh and many conclackulations on the electronic 4wd engagement system too (y)

Ah yes well the electronic 4wd engagement is one of those things that currently doesn't work! I like the look of the button though. And am hoping that one of the Italian "mestiere" will be able to take a look. Plan is to keep the car in Italy next year til the revisione (MOT) runs out then point the car north for Blighty.
@andyholli - it's definitely more refined than the Panda. Much less wind noise, generally less "NVH". Though after the 200km down from Venice the drivetrain was humming a bit. And something dropped off on a pothole. Systems check showed everything essential was still working, so can't have been important. Gearchange is currently of Wheeler Dealer standard. And as if in readiness for its future home in the UK, it does have a few spots of rust.

Plan is to tinker a little when on holiday in Italy (and hopefully make a meeting there) then continue the TLC on return to the UK. In the long term, need to replace at least one seat, some trim bits, possibly a door and tailgate. Should be easy to find.

Am intrigued by the differences from a Panda. Any ideas on this contraption on the rear axle?..

you mean this "rod" on the first pcture? this s lever connecting the axle with the brake pressure corrector for rear wheels. It "detects" the load or "no-load" when car is empty, and reduces/enhances the fluid pressure for rear brakes.

Rod is attached here:

4WD is not working probably because "clack" levers{yellow} are seized. 8 on 10 y10 4WD problem:)

Good evening guys !!

David it has been funny to help you !!

In Italy we use the club mainly for this kind of help.
Many times we need pieces & spare parts for the cars, and the club has persons almost everywhere in Italy.

I'm happy that you are satisfied !!!
Now you can enjoy your Y10 4WD.

You have the best 13" wheels ever built. They are the strongest wheels for off-roading. If you hit a rock, you can save them with an hammer.
(you only need to paint them with anti-rust paint, they are made of iron).

The Y10 4WD rear axle is the best one for on-road use. Limited fuel consuption, less noise & vibration, less maintenance, more performances (sligtly more) thanks to free hubs.
You just need to push the botton.

Please let me know when to call the mechanical near your house in Italy.

Have fun bro !!
