I was fitting some plastic arch extensions today, and when I came to refit the rear wheel, only 3 of the 4 bolts tightened up. By that I mean it just keeps spinning and spinning, not tightening up. Even worse, when I tried to take it out, it just kept spinning and spinning and not undoing. Have I stripped the thread? To look at it compared with the other 3 it seems to be the same distance in the hole.

I depend on the car for work, so I need one pretty sharpish, so I was thinking more along for lines of a fiver for a used one. Providing the wheel doesnt fall off on the way there, I'll go tomorrow.

Your wheel won't fall off my friend...I've driven on two bolts at 30...you'll be fine.

However, if your thread IS stripped; you're probably looking at a repair rather more than just the drum...what does the bolt actually fit into ?

My temporary repair was to clean the hole with meths, fill with plastic metal and then screw in a wheel bolt coated in copper grease. Of course, I can't recommend this.

the wheel bolts on the rear of the car screw into the wheel hub which holds the bearing, so i hate to say this but you will need a wheel bearing/hub now which means another £40 :(

It was indeed the hub which was stripped, so I drove to the scrapyard and bought one there. Im sort of glad I did because the car I took it off was the same colour as mine, with rust free doors. So I got a perfect (and I mean perfect) N/S door with wheel hub for £30, which I didn't think was bad. It was a pain removing it because the hand brake was seized on.

The wheel bolts I have are longer becuase of the alloy wheels, and as I was a bolt short, I used one off of the front, and used an old (shorter) bolt on the front. For some reason the shorter bolts are only long enough for the fronts. Anyway, here are some pictures of the arch extensions.

Yeah I like them too. I had to remove the existing plastic trim which is on the front of the rear arches, and spray the part of the sill that they covered. Fitting them was easy, just a case of drilling and screwing in a few self tappers.

one of my threads stripped and i need a new hub-hopefully the parts will come in soon cos i cant drive!!-the guy said i cant drive with only 3 bolts in the front wheel :bang:
oh yeh neeed a wheel bearing kit too

Chris, they are original. They were an optional extra. They're genuine Fiat arches. :)

Lloyd, looking good.

are they, i didnt realise, just goes to show that you never know ALL the panda options. Lloyd, i hope you rust treated the holes you drilled, as the rust will set in soon if you didnt.

Out of curiosity steve, where did you get them from? Ive seen brochures advertising a panda "sportiva" with them on. But a panda sporting was never released here. (Go to www.fiatpanda.dk > gallery > brochures). There definatly FIAT parts because theres a FIAT logo on the inside of them.
