Just wondering if anyone knows of a source of new bushes for the front of a 4x4 leaf spring? Or perhaps a bush from another car that is readily available that will do the job?

I am having a new middle leaf fitted to one of the springs on my yellow 4x4 as it is broken, to remove the spring from the car I had to cut the front bolt either side of the bush as it was sezied solid. I can't find anything online or on Italian eBay, my local motorfactors don't list anything and even the spring specialist who is fitting the new leaf is unable to get one.

Before I start looking into making my own polybushes I thought I would ask as surely someone has had to replace one at some point? Just to be clear I am talking about the front bush not the rear shackle, which is readily available!

I'll quote myself:

If you want new big steel/rubber bushes there is a company in Italy "birth" they produce aftermarket bushes for our cars. I've send them an email, and they replied that I can buy without any problem new bushes through their sales representative in Poland. So try to find their representative in UK and ask for the price. ask for part "birth 51351" The price for new aftermarket part { price in Poland}was about the same as for the polyurethane parts, it was about 24GBP for a pair.

Or send an email to the Birth and ask yourself:

Thanks guys, after some digging it looks like http://www.shop4parts.co.uk are Birth suppliers so I will give them a ring armed with the part number.

Bartpanda Do you have any dimensions for the polybushes you made?

You beat me to it! I was just about to suggest Shop4Parts as a Birth supplier. Some parts on my Punto from them are Birth. Seem good quality parts to me (y)

unfortunatelly not, and the bushes are already pressed into the leafsprngs, but still I have old original bush somewhere, so can measure it for you (y)

I contacted Shop4Parts today and it turns out they have the bushes in stock! Strangely they are not listed in their catalogue, but search for the right part number on the website (different to the Birth part number Bartpanda gave, S4P must have cross referenced it to their own number) and they are available to order online.

I have ordered a pair and should get them Monday, hopefully they are correct, the picture looks right! But until I get them I won't know for sure.

Link is below if anyone wants to get some, not too expensive either, around £30 for a pair including postage:

https://www.shop4parts.co.uk/originalbirth/?name=store&op=Details&ProdID=13244&sku=197684

Incase that link goes dead in the future the Shop4Parts number is S4P13244.

Thanks to Bartpanda for giving me the vital information on Birth, without that I would probably be making my own bushes:worship:

I spoke to the S4P people at Stanford last year. They said they still old stock of a lot of old cars but don't advertise it on their site.

That's interesting - I was looking for something Uno related today and they didn't list anything for the Uno (or the Panda) - I went to another website. They are losing out if people don't know they have other stuff!

The main part of the site doesn't list Mk1/2 Panda but if you find the 'Original Birth' catalogue there are lots of Panda parts listed, but not available to order, or perhaps they are if you ring/email them. No spring bushes listed in that catalogue though which adds to the confusion!

I didn't get any further than the list of vehicles they supplied parts for. And if they think most people are going to look further than that, they need shaking! Any website not listing my car (and there's plenty) doesn't get a second chance as I'm hunting for people listing that model. :bang:

The bushes arrived today and are correct(y) Really pleased as I was expecting to have to get them from Italy or make my own, so to find that a company in Bradford has them on the shelf and can get them to me for the next working day is brilliant. I just don't understand why they don't list them properly on their site!

Also got the repaired spring back today, so once the new bush is pressed in and I have a set of new bolts it will be ready to go. I just hope the car sits level since the drivers side is original.
