Hi Trevor, well i hope it'll turn out top notch, but first i have to find the parts. Speaking of which it's great to hear that you're the aficionado on Y10's. I'll try not to bombard you with too many questions! Do you by any chance know the exact model of Grundig stereo they fitted to the Y10 back in 1985? I have found a K-reg car with a WKC 3802 unit, but i imagine that this is more modern than the one that was originally fitted to mine? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I imagine i'll just have to go with the nearest ting i can find?

Tough one that, I bought a brand new Y10 Touring in 1986 but that came with no stereo at all

Thanks Trevor, I expected as much, as when I think back to my mothers new Metro that also didn't come with a stereo back in 85-88. Think I'll go with what would have been available in the showroom at the time for the delta/prisma. I take it that behind the stereo facia door was a storage box instead then?

I think there was just a plastic box much the same size as a DIN head unit behind the cover from stock - I put a Kenwood radio/cassette in mine as in car CD had only just come out and were anything but cheap back in 1986

The beauty of it being enclosed means you could put in a more modern unit and no-one would know

Cheers again Trevor. I have a bit of an obsession with original equipment, so it'll have to be the plastic box or Grundig tape player if I can find one from 1985

Hi all, Well the preening has begun! I'm looking for advice on what pressure I need for the rear electric petrol pump? Mine is making one hell of a racket! I've seen a few different ones on ebay, but they seem to be either 3bar or 4 bar and I'm not sure if it'll make much of a difference? Also, at the same time I'm going to replace the pre filter that's attached to it, as it looks ancient, any ideas what type of pre filter I need?

Any web page links to what's available would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Remove the pump from the car, plunge inlet and outlet into two containers with fresh petrol and connect +12V in opposite order than original. Pump should work in opposite directon throwing out all gung and crap which are inside.
Note: High risk of petrol spray, spill - no open fire etc.
I'm sure few out there will know the fuel pressure values.

I slightly over spec'd my pump on there and fitted a 6 bar sytec pump I think it is...

I guess I was thinking I might go to injection at some point and so just let the regulator take the pressure down to the 0,2 bar (off boost) but still running carb a few years on now and regulator still going ok :slayer:

Looking in the manual it says it needs greater than 0,2 bar on boost and 130 litres/hour flow rate. As the engines run at low boosts really I think 1 bar is all you would need but that would be running a little close to the limit. The fuel pump has to overcome boost pressure otherwise the fuel is blown back down the pipe! It then leans out and you get a big pop out the exhaust and no power till the carburettor re-fills...generally not pleasant!

I'd say 3 or 4 bar pump will be plenty but keep to the 130 l/h flow rate as it's a thirsty ba*%^rd!!

Cheers,
Si

another thread with electric fuel pumps and pressures in! im going to go mad!

sadly i am already mad.

dont make me show you all my electric fuel pump collection... i have about 20 now of all different flow rates and pressures.

sadly i do not know the true pressure a y10 turbo runs at, but i bet it uses a similar fuel sender to the uno..
could you take a picture of it and/or the top of the tank (bit under the rear seat)

also, the nylon mesh i have found like to break up over time and go into the pump causing it to be loud. you can pick it out and it should be fine again. jut replace the mesh with something else.

Thanks again guys very much appreciate all your help. The one that you've posted a pic of on the german eBay Giocosa is exactly the same one as mine. I've also found a brand new one on german eBay that i think i'm going to get. The majority that i've found that look identical to my original one are quoted as being 3 bar. I read that it's worth changing the pre filter at the same time so i'm deff going to do this as a precaution. I don't know if any old pre-filter will do though?

Hi all, me again,

Try as i might, i cant seem to get the front fogs to come on? i take it that it's simply a case of switching them on via the switch on the dash? if so, perhaps the switch has gone or something else?

Got my faulty indicators to work, soaked all the earths in vinegar, scrub with a brush, oiled and hey presto, no more crazy indicators. :)

Right, so they work when i have the switch turned on, on the dash board and pull the light stalk forward?! but they don't work with the switch on the dash alone? any ideas anyone?

May be wrong, but shouldn't,t fog lights only work on dipped beam, and go off when main beam is turned on.
Could that be the answer
Dave
