Returning here with a new car

taking delivery of a 1991 750L, hopefully it wont need more than a service. will post some pictures when it arrives.

I expect to be asking lots of questions

Looks good, love the traditional hammerite up to the crease look, haven't seen that for a while with all these purists getting in on the act.

Let's face it if everyone had taken the precaution back in the day less of us would have frilly doors now :ROFLMAO:

Unfortunately it's never used as a precaution, only a cover up. The rust in the doors originates in the the seams so you have to protect from the inside.

Good little Panda there rendo, plenty of originality to work from. (y)

Thanks for the comments.

the hammerite did concern me, and certainly isnt pretty. but in this case i think it might have been done for preventative reasons, the body is very solid, only a few liitle signs of rust.
i already have the wiper motor out as i removed the heater to give it a clean, there were plants growing in it.

I bought this with 6months mot, but i dont think it has been run much in that time. Car was running but not well, exhaust was shot and brake hoses are corroded and jamming on. the test run was very short, it obviously needed attention. it was a bit of a gamble, but the price was good.

I need to sort out
the brake hoses,
exhaust
tyres.
I might also clean out the carb, there looks like oil in the upper part. is this normal?
i have also ordered
contacts, plugs, HT leads, oil and filters

hope to be back on the road this weekend

It's probably coming up through the breather pipe. Check the pipe to see if it has a flame trap in it (twirly wire gauze).

I'll give that a check, thanks.

I did a little bit of work last night. first thing i notice is water lying in the back. i have the boot liner and rear seat out and have water gathering below the seat. the window seals look ok, can water get in on the seams in the roof. i dont think this is a regular fault, may just be they way the car is positions. the interior is dry and its been sitting idle for a few months, so if its been happening regular it would smell.

any ideas

Had that in both my pandas when I bought them and not had in either of them since, think the condensation gathers there for some reason.

Some progress this weekend, but a few issues.
I have the car running, i have new points on order but set the points using a dwell function i have on my multimeter, first time i've done this.
I have a holey exhaust, i have a rear section on order, but its the front section that is blown.
I also have brake hoses on order, so decided to clean up around the brakes, they are binding at the moment. so i've only gone and shear the bleed nipple of. any ideas how to remove this. brake hoses were also difficult to remove, particularly at the hose and pipe connection. the brake protection plates are badly corroded but not sure if i should just ditch these, they look a pita to remove/replace.
i also need to think ahead to tyres, they are currently 135/13, i got a set of decent 155/80 13 tyres with the car but i think these will be too big circumference. having a look around there doesnt seem to be a lot of options for 13" tyres, so is it worth going to 14"? what are you all using?

155/70 on 13" alloys. Got the two front Goodyears off Black Circles website.

These are what you need to remove the bleed nipple. For future reference try tapping them into the caliper with a hammer before you start to undo them, it loosens the thread. It could still be worth hitting what's left into the caliper with a pin punch before you use the easy out.
