Hi folks, I've searched previous threads for a while, but can't find an answer to this one. Is there an easy way to remove the spring clip from the headlight bulbs on my CLX? It looks like it should come off the bulb and I could therefore reuse it when changing the bulbs, but they seem really tight and I don't want to force them.

The reason that I've been looking at the headlights was because I had a pretty spectacular near miss at a roundabout last night where a van changed lanes in front of me and it required some pretty hardcore swerving to avoid him ,

I think my dim headlights were defnitely a factor and I know that's generally the case with our wee motors from what I've been reading, but could anyone point me towards a link to a good bright bulb that will fit? I currently have H4 type bulbs fitted, but they're not up to much.

I may look at fitting relays too.

any so long as they are E stamped i suppose.. i think i am running night brakes? funny blueish tint to the ends of the bulb.. had them given me.. they are a lot better than the standards.

you can get 100/ 130 watt p45t bulbs but i think they are not E stamped, only for use off road. besides. they would kill your wiring unless you ran everything through relays... like me :D

must admit.. would love to see the difference.

if it is dark country lanes, i will admit to using my spot lights a few times

one thing my mum and dad always told me was "never go faster than your head lights will let you see", to which my reply was something along the lines of that i would not make it out of first gear then..
when i gave my dad a lift a lift 2 or 3 years ago before i got the bull bars or did the relay mod.. he did comment on how bad the lights were, thinking i only had the side lights on haha

i just used a punto 1.2 alternator. make sure it has electric power steering.. if you look on ebay for a punto 1.2 90 amp alternator you should find one.

you do have to change the end pulley to make it panda compatable.. or you could take the crank pulley off the punto and use that on the panda. that way you would have the more modern multi v belt, over the old mono v belt.

mind you, being as you have an injected panda, i think i would stick with the old crank shaft pulley, as your ECU uses it to pick up the ignition timing.

unless if you are like me and you like to play with these things. i would just swap the alternator pulley over.

I came up with this circuit to enable me to install a relay circuit which plugs in without having to cut the existing loom. Does this look right? I have included 2 fuses one for low and one for high beams . Which side headlight does the switch run to?

Which side headlight does the switch run to?

Its runs to both through a relay. You MUST fuse each filament, so 4 fuses in total, one for dipped beam each side and one for main (y)

Ideally you should relay each of the 4 circuits separately - this is what I've always done and it means unless something happens with the OEM relay in the fuse board should you have an issue you shouldn't loose all of your lighting (y)

As a result your wiring diagram needs changing, and you need to basically do 2 circuits off of the rear of each existing headlamp plug to replace the current dipped and main feed for each side (y)

Thought that might be the case. Easy to fix the diagram though and hook it all up. Thanks for the advice MEP :)

No worries. I remember doing mine and making the wiring loom in the garage - I found it rather theraputic  :p

I personally use miniature relays acquired from modern Fiat models in scrap yards (y)

Here was a quick dipped beam upon relay upgrade I done on my old Sisley
