Coming up for sale very soon will be the engine and gearbox removed from my 1990 Sisley 4x4. Will also come with all ancillaries, radiator, etc.

It's done 84,000 and is in great nick ~ Only removing as my Camel Toephy project has got rather out of hand (fun!) and a Isuzu 1.5td is being fitted instead.

Located in Usk, Monmouthsire (NP15) and everything will be popped on a pallet ready for collection in October

Thought I'd let you guys have first dibs before listing it on eBay, so please feel free to make me an offer.

Cheers

Jon

You are going to have to elaborate!!!

Elaborate on the sale of the engine or the installation of the new one?

If it's the installation of the new one, I was going to wait until it all slots/bolts/gets hammered together before revealing whether it was a rather brilliant or rather stupid idea, but seeing as you asked...

The current thinking at the moment is to marry an Isuzu 1.5td Corsa engine to an F20/F28 4x4 gearbox from a Calibra and connect it to the existing Puch 4x4 system, and then...

- Uprate the brakes (maybe Punto)
- Install power steering
- Uprate suspension to coilovers
- Strap on an intercooler
- Tweak the gear ratios
- Dual Loom
- Raised air intake
- Bonnet-mounted spare wheel
- Custom roofrack with spotlights, worklight and jerry-can holders
- CB
- Front winch
- Front and rear bull-bars
- Front and rear light-guards
- Bush-cables
- Rear parcel shelf replaced and integrated campervan hob and sink installed
- Sprayed in Sandglow
- Full Camel Trophy Decals (but custom-made to read Camel Toephy)

...and then drive to Mongolia next July...

Did some one recently posted something about panda's taking part in Mongol Rally? Definitely. Corse would do the job as well. You dont need car with 4x4 to get to Ulan-Bator, just navigation skils and basic russian language. Please put the hammer end welder on one side for now and consider different vehicle. I've chosen Suzuki Carry converted to full size 2 bed camper.

Hi CamelToephy, sounds like you have your work cut out with the mods! I don't want to shoot down your ideas by any means, but I'd reconsider on the engine/box combo. If I were you I'd keep the Panda box, just incase, and maybe consider the F13 or even F13S (if you can find one) GM box, simply because the ratios are much closer and the gears are much shorter. Also with the 1500 being the small block engine these boxes will fit straight on without an adaptor plate required. I presume you're a Vauxhall man already given your ideas? I think it's a good plan to try the 1.5 Diesel in there, it'll be interesting to see it done.

Was your idea with the F20/28 in place as they are the boxes were used in the Cavalier & Calibra 4x4s? I know they ran a transfer box to the prop which cut out after 30mph, it'll be interesting also to see how this would perform when joined upto the Panda setup. Good luck with it and get a thread started to show your progress please :)

Thanks for the comments, will pass them on to my mechanic...he's the Vauxhall man, so I'm in his hands where nuts, bolts and cogs are concerned...in all honesty I'm more about the aesthetics!

Yep, that was me! Could definitely take another vehicle and guess 4x4 isn't a necessity, but I want to create something kind of brilliant really, and it's not just for the Mongol Rally, it's my adventure vehicle! Have plans for Morocco, Iceland, etc, so want it to be superb.

Loving the feedback, much appreciated

Cheers,

Jon
