Panda (Classic) Engelbert the H reg Dark Green Sisley Progress Log

Introduction

https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-cla...ng-h-reg-sisley-needs-home-5.html#post3514984

So today I took delivery of the above mentioned Sisley, who I have decided to name Engelbert after the last 3 letters of his numberplate (I always name my cars in this way). All is explained as to how he came to be in my possession from the above thread so I wont touch on that too much here but will say the seller is a very kind lady. She was understanding about the transport frustrations I had and was very honest about the condition of the car.

This first post is going to be very pic heavy by the way!! I got it and did a quick assessment (I will do a more in depth assessment tomorrow) but I am extremely pleased with the condition generally, it obviously will need work but I am prepared for this (hence the project log). It has every sisley extra apart from the grille badge and is missing two centrecaps and the horn push (I am not counting the compass in this), though I wasnt expecting there to be as much of the sisley trim etc as there is! I am in the process of compiling a list of required items too.

Required Items/work required

Side repeater indicator
Front part of Airbox assembly (or new clips)
two sisley centrecaps
Front grille sisley badge
Instrument surround (See photo)
possibly bonnet vent (there is a small crack in this but I actually dont think it matters too much)
Possibly new bonnet or just work to the bonnet
Rubber headlamp rear cover
Rubber boot seal
Refurbish wheels and new tyres
Sisley Horn Push
New Battery
Aerial
Wiring repairs (wiring next to battery at least)
Repair front seat fabric
Under bonnet screwdriver
wirebrushing and undersealing, possible welding at points
Front bullbars
rear bullbars Palio I havent forgotten about this, but will wait till funds are more available if thats cool?
Obviously a stripdown and recommissioning generally of the engine is required as it hasnt run in 4-5 years

The general condition is pretty good indeed, though some rust curing and prevention will obviously have to be done. But I gave it a quick clean and it has come up very nicely, I am struggling for things to say about it as I have so much swimming in my head at the moment with it, im overwhelmed, need to sleep to digest it all! I will let the pictures and videos do the talking (still need to upload videos)
Getting a really good finish with rattle cans over a big area is tough. One thing that helps is using a colour that you can afford to buy a lot of spray cans so you don't have to skimp.

I decided my car was close enough to wheel trim silver and now just buy this stuff in job lots of 12 500ml Tetrosyl Wheel Silver and similar x12 job lots of laquer. Its a good way to by paint but you're limited to basic colours!

I must have got through over a dozen doing two doors a bonnet and boot. Even then the finish isn't great.

Its worth remembering with any painting the next coat won't smooth/hide imperfections it will make it stand out 10 times worse. :bang: I hate painting!

All good advice, but I wasn't to know the volume of paint I would need as it is my first time doing this, but its an experience thing.

Going to wait till I have my double garage next year to do a better job with a better space to work in. Got it on the car in the meantime.

Cleared out the fuel lines with fresh fuel today, and removed the front speaker pods in a bid to sort out all the wiring hanging under the dash. Think I've got it all planned in my head now, so I put the speaker pods in the parade (I want just rear speakers in the sisley, since the parade is my show car it makes more sense this way).

Got a better look in daylight today of the underside of the car, starting to get a plan better arranged in my head now, so a grand day all told :)

hmm i am not sure if the sill will come with the inner sill.. when i got a set it was just the outer skin. i had to rebuild the floorpan sill bit using strips of metal.

like you said in the video.. the outer sill skin looks in really good condition.

have you done any more work on the fuel tank at all?
as you are going to weld i would just leave it off for now.

for test running, you can just stick the 2 pipes in a fuel can heh

have you checked all the brakes yet?

Crikey I forgot to show you! This video shows the fuel tank as it is now. And yes I am leaving it off till welding is completed. Hopefully should get done in the spring/summer.

The brakes...

As far as the front goes I know that it needs new discs and pads as both are very corroded and old. Haven't had the drums apart yet but suspect the shoes may need renewing at the very least. Most likely rear cylinders and master cylinder required too at the very least as it has run completely dry of brake fluid. Handbrake works, though not amazingly. So pretty much the same as PTP when I got him though I suspect some resectioning of brake lines will be in order too.

ahh the tank looks nice. good job with it :D

yeah for what it costs i would just replace the whole breaking system.

brake pipe with unions from off ebay will cost about £10-15
a new master cylinder will cost £15-25
each rear wheel cylinder will cost £4-8
shoes will cost about £14-20
pads will cost about £10-20
each disc will cost about £7-10
hoses are around £9-20 each

all ebay prices.. and this is around what i paid for each item when i rebuilt the brakes on Fallout.

I do like the Sisley seatbelts. I had a heretical idea of putting them in the Y10 but I suppose i'd better not. Out of curiosity what are you using to film your YT clips?

Finally Engelbert is in the garage for welding! All being well should be done by this time next week. All the welding required is being done in one go:

1-front lower suspension mount
2-rear cross member
3-fuel tank and battery securing bolts (sheared) cut off and new welded in place
4-both inner sills and edges of floorpan welded up
5-boot floor
6-tailgate lower panel

And some other stuff I can't remember. Its a highly recommended garage though, but I will keep price and details to myself until the job is completed and I am happy (to avoid it coming up on Google searches)
