Panda (Classic) Engelbert the H reg Dark Green Sisley Progress Log

Introduction

https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-cla...ng-h-reg-sisley-needs-home-5.html#post3514984

So today I took delivery of the above mentioned Sisley, who I have decided to name Engelbert after the last 3 letters of his numberplate (I always name my cars in this way). All is explained as to how he came to be in my possession from the above thread so I wont touch on that too much here but will say the seller is a very kind lady. She was understanding about the transport frustrations I had and was very honest about the condition of the car.

This first post is going to be very pic heavy by the way!! I got it and did a quick assessment (I will do a more in depth assessment tomorrow) but I am extremely pleased with the condition generally, it obviously will need work but I am prepared for this (hence the project log). It has every sisley extra apart from the grille badge and is missing two centrecaps and the horn push (I am not counting the compass in this), though I wasnt expecting there to be as much of the sisley trim etc as there is! I am in the process of compiling a list of required items too.

Required Items/work required

Side repeater indicator
Front part of Airbox assembly (or new clips)
two sisley centrecaps
Front grille sisley badge
Instrument surround (See photo)
possibly bonnet vent (there is a small crack in this but I actually dont think it matters too much)
Possibly new bonnet or just work to the bonnet
Rubber headlamp rear cover
Rubber boot seal
Refurbish wheels and new tyres
Sisley Horn Push
New Battery
Aerial
Wiring repairs (wiring next to battery at least)
Repair front seat fabric
Under bonnet screwdriver
wirebrushing and undersealing, possible welding at points
Front bullbars
rear bullbars Palio I havent forgotten about this, but will wait till funds are more available if thats cool?
Obviously a stripdown and recommissioning generally of the engine is required as it hasnt run in 4-5 years

The general condition is pretty good indeed, though some rust curing and prevention will obviously have to be done. But I gave it a quick clean and it has come up very nicely, I am struggling for things to say about it as I have so much swimming in my head at the moment with it, im overwhelmed, need to sleep to digest it all! I will let the pictures and videos do the talking (still need to upload videos)
SUCCESS!!!

I changed the heater box over today, although unfortunately I had to take the casing from the scrap car one and put it on the internals from the box on the Sisley because the wires for the heater controls were severed too short for me to be comfortable working with, glad I did too because the little radiator (heater matrix) in the one from the scrap car looked to be in poor condition, its casing was lovely though, and the whole thing was very easy to do :)

BUT IN BIGGER NEWS

I drove it in my driveway today!!! Admittedly at about a mile an hour, but I drove it! Uploading the video just now. I don't drive far in the video but I drove further on the second or 3rd run.

Cheekily borrowed the grinder the chap who is fitting my house windows was using :ROFLMAO: used it to remove the roof rack :) (the metal of the rear brackets was fused somehow to the bars of the roof rack, couldn't tell whether it was welding or not) the grinder made short work of it!

So should be able to work on the paint on the roof now. Its a bit worse for wear at the moment! Not sure whether I should refurb the roof rack or not, or even whether its worth doing it to this particular one.

Do please excuse my "garage" was meant to get destroyed in the summer to make way for building a new one, but can't have the sisley outside this winter, and after how long it took to build fort Knox/my garden shed by myself I don't fancy building my garage myself, so the plan is to destroy the garage at the beginning of summer next year and have a double garage built there by a local company in its place.

The timing of getting this car wasn't great from that aspect but I am glad I got it :) sorry guys just wanted to vent.

Great progress on Engelbert, and the double garage plans.

If you decide not to rebuild the roof rack I'd be very happy to buy your plastic corners and the metal brackets.

Thanks Andy, I still haven't completely figured out my plan yet, and not even sure if those things would be of any use to you (haven't assessed their condition) but as soon as I know I will let you know if I can be of any help to you :)

Put the rear seats back in and polished the Sisley today, I was hoping that the marks on the roof would improve after I had removed the roof rack to get better access for cleaning, but after a through clean and polish its worse than I thought, the lacquer appears to have peeled a lot :( I'm not too bothered as it's not a show car, but it has put the idea of a respray in my head :ROFLMAO:. I've noticed a few of the green Sisley's have this problem :( it is nicer to work on a clean car in any case so I am pleased with the results to an extent, the places that came up well came up very well.

The lacquer peeling is a common problem with all the Sisley colours, its the reason I resprayed my Sisley as it had gone on the roof and bonnet. I wouldn't bother doing it though, you just end up with a car you are scared to use and then have to buy another one! Just like I have done:D

Well there is that, I am torn between knowing that I don't want it to be a show car and wanting it to look good :bang:

Hold on from the photo on my phone I thought it was peeling lacquer, is it a vinyl roof??

:ROFLMAO: Good job we don't take offence easily in this section - thinking that fine piece of automotive craftsmanship was peeling lacquer!! It was to cover the faded roof. (y)

My blue Sisley had the bloom on yours Cameron. It won't polish out as it's under the lacquer - mine was resprayed a couple of years ago. :)

Vinyl roof may well be the way to go then! Though space for the sunroof would have to be accounted for :)

Though its not going to be a show car the roof (paintwise) is in just too poor condition for me to let go, I will have to do something about it certainly.

My Sisley looked like this when I took it off the road:

It was pretty much perfect when I bought it about 18 months before, so didn't take long for it to get that bad. Worth having a close look at the bonnet to see if there are any signs of it going on there aswell.

Crikey! Why do we think this happens to the Sisley specific paints??

The bonnet had started to do that, but the front of the bonnet has been repaired with filler and cracked etc and I'm not happy with it generally so I have removed it and will be replacing it.
