My copy of July's Practical Classics has just landed on my doormat.

After a couple of years badgering the Panda has finally arrived in their price guide. (y)

In the main the prices actually look realistic

The Panda hatch from 80-96 is down at £300 condition 3 (spot on), £550 condition 2, £900 condition 1, and £1600+ C/D. Those are probably not too far off as a generalisation - 2 & 1 are at the low end of usual sales I'd say.

C/D is concours or dealer, 1 is well presented no obvious faults, 2 capable of regular use with mot but need work, 3 is a shed (in simple terms).

The Panda 4x4 is also listed! This is shown as £600 for a shed, £1200 condition 2, £2500 condition 1, and £4000+ for C/D. Those sound exactly right to me as a guide. It will hopefully help the prices along a bit seeing those figures in what is seen as the definitive guide. (y)

What does everyone else think?

I think -- bearing all the usual provisos of variability, special editions, how many are left, etc. -- they're not bad. They might even stop people asking silly prices for supposedly "rare" cars (but, then again, it's sometimes these prices that are at the vanguard* of increasing values...).

Surprised the Sisley isn't listed separately, though -- as the model that seems to attract the more outrageous(!?) prices.

It's a start, though... -- and am quite chuffed: being one of the many (I presume) who have emailed them (several times) asking why the FIAT listings were so poor....

*Vanguard -- now almost impossible-to-source front bullbar for the mythical Sisley-based 4x4 Panda van (LHD only). Palio probably has one in a shed, somewhere.... :p

Yes I'm sure a few have asked then about this. At the NEC in 2012 I bent their ear a bit and asked why the Panda wasn't listed - they thought it was and Keith (dep ed, who's a really good bloke & would like a Panda) actually looked in the mag to show me it was there (it wasn't, but I did wonder if I was about to look really silly!!).

Pinky got into June's issue, so there is hope of more Panda action. The best bet is to politely keep asking. It's the old story of the owners thinking they know what sells the magazine (MG anyone??!! ), and not really letting the staff run features they want to (or at least not often enough). It is waaayyyy better than it used to be though, and I think Danny/Keith & Co deserve some credit for that. :worship:

I was going to add this too, just not the outrageous bit :p

What about Mk1's Gavin?

There's no room for different models. We've got a generic mk1/2 and a general 4x4 listing (poor old Uno only lists the turbo!).

Mk1 prices are a bit specialised as there aren't many. Current thinking is that they are up to £4k but as always the market decides.

Charlie the VIP had his mot yesterday - passed with a couple of bits to watch (the exhaust had a split, couple of old tyres, and brake flexi's starting to look their age). (y) I don't know where people would value him (extremely rare, solid underneath, lovely interior, but bodywork will need attention at some point), and I may have overpaid when I had him from Kev..... But, what's this car worth now (or especially in a few years) with the bodywork done?

In my opinion anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay....
it does not make any sense IMO that somebody "value" a rare car for 100K is nobody is willing to pay that price... and to be honest there are thousands Panda around Europe so I dont believe they are so "rare"
with £1000 you could buy many many many Pandas in France, germany, Italy... i also found few Japanese Panda for €500/$450 ready to be imported in UK
The price should reflect in my opinion the condition of the car itself.... we are not talking about super rare old astons or ferrari or mercedes here
I may be wrong but thats what I feel

That's what we are talking about - the actual sale value, not some mythical insurance value. Panda's have sold in the UK for £4000 already. (y)

If you look at Autoscout there are plenty of Panda's for sale from €300 - €7500, so I don't think they are all cheap in Euroland.

While your £100k Panda is a nice idea, I'll be the first to lock you in a padded cell if you think there will ever be one! ;)

I do agree with you
I just don't like when someone say in
Their ad "rare" last few on the road ect.
I know the Pandas will go up on price but maybe we need to wait another 20/30 years

Don't wait too long. My Sisley was £600 a few years ago, and has a (realistic) £3500 valuation now - and no it's not for sale. (y)

Some are rare in the UK - any mk1 certainly is, and if you want one the price is unlikely to be low.

You're right though - the number of plentiful mk2 special editions labelled as "rare" is laughable - and we do in the auction watch threads. (y)

I subscribed to PC for two years then dropped it as it was always covering the same run of the mill British classics, or if it did go off piste it was to report on something so obscure that if someone was interested in owning one they stood a snowball in hells chance of buying one! But I too have noticed a shift towards the light so have just started subscribing to the new enlightened PC.

Gavin and I have been pushing gently on their door (Gavin less gently) every time we've met them at the NEC etc and it finally seems to have produced some results. Richard Gunn is a contributer and is keen to step into a 4x4 with a view to writing an article about the experience so there may yet be more to come. :slayer:

Prices in Japan seem pretty healthy!

I'm happy to pay you back what you paid for the VIP....as you know...:D would look forward to doing the resto on the body and the respray...leave it were it is and I will pick it up in two years...;)

(y) Yes I know, thanks. It may have looked like I meant I was thinking of selling - it's not going anywhere at the moment & it will never go anywhere without Kev having first refusal.

At the risk of going off topic (never! :D ) purple haze Charlie looks lovely and solid underneath (y) He's also spot on with the timing & emissions which may explain why he goes so well - I was mildly surprised when he shot up to 80 without me noticing - settled down to a nice 75 cruise, which feels slightly more frenetic with the other mk1's. This may be down to better soundproofing (or maybe SOME soundproofing), but it just feels like a really nice engine. :worship:

The bodywork looks really smart, but there are problems with the rear arches as you know (it looks like dodgy repairs rather than rust though?!), and the front wings are clearly not long for this world under the paint. The MOT guys seemed to quite like him & commented that they hadn't seen a 2-tone car for years!! Kindly Steve adjusted the clutch for me (which I thought needed replacement) as part of the MOT :slayer:

He will at some point need a resto, but definitely deserves it - I'm happy driving around with him as is, but do feel a bit sad that he's not looking as stunning as I know he would following the work.
