We have finally had confirmation that we can have a stand at the Practical Classics Restoration show at the NEC. It takes place on 12-13th April and the website is at http://www.necrestorationshow.com

As it took so long to get confirmation, organisation is at an early stage & rather more chaotic than I'd like, but here's the plan.....

It's officially a Fiat Motor Club stand though in reality more of a joint FMC & FF stand. I had to prove £5m of insurance cover, which I can only do via the FMC.

We are planning to have Pinky the Panda up there as a working exhibit. This is your chance to pull something off Pinky (but DON'T break it!), as the strip-down will be started there. We will need helpers on the stand - any offers?

Also the debut of Panto the project panda looking Panda. When I say debut, this is the long awaited unveiling of a fully completed Panto, as a restored example - no pressure Vern!

Third Panda will be the red 4x4 Vern rescued, being displayed as a "barn find".

We'll probably have Freddie the 127 there as an example of an unrestored "preserved" Fiat, and maybe something else (a part restored Topolino maybe).

As I say, this is your opportunity to get involved in stripping Pinky. Please let us know if you're able to help.

Vernon will probably have something to add, as I'm sure he has plans for a spectacular display (y)

Unfortunately this does clash with Andy's offroading weekend, but there are enough of us to support 2 classic Panda events I'm sure.

Well I'm disapointed that this clashes with the 4x4 weekend as I would have gladly helped out on the stand, I spoke to Vernon at the classic motorshow last year about helping out with Pinkys restoration in some way and this could have been it or part of it:( If only I could be in two places at once as I don't want to miss either!

I'm up for this as long as I can sort the logistics out. I have a meet up with mates from the Hyundai coupe crowd that Saturday night, which happens to be in Birmingham, so should work out fine (y)

Don't worry Freddy I'm sure I can give you another opportunity to help out with Pinky. (y)

Thanks for starting the ball rolling Gavin. (y) Yes we do need people to help on the stand as well as stripping down Pinky.

I will have to think about how the stripdown will work as it needs to be done in a methodical way and not just a free for all with parts and spanners flying all over the place. Then there's health and safety to think about, tools and equipment, transportation of two non runners there and two non runners plus stripped parts back. Ahhhh

I'm expecting to have to do a risk assessment - bearing in mind this was needed for balloons, stripping a car must surely be more dangerous??!!

Maybe we need something to rope off Pinky while he's being worked on? I'm thinking those stand alone posts with pull out tape stuff - like they use at concerts? Anyone know what they are called??

Guys I don't want anyone to feel like they must come to Yorkshire just because they've already signed up - obviously we have a clash but I will hopefully be doing many more of the events up here so there will always be chance to do the next. If project Pinky is starting at the show then all hands on deck I say, in a way I am only annoyed that I can't come and play too! I should've checked before announcing my date :banghead:

Honestly there will never be any hard feelings if people back out of the Yorkshire weekend for another event especially for a good cause such as this :)

Yes that sort of thing (y) Or possibly a plastic chain.... We need sturdy, long, and cheap, very cheap.......!! We won't get something to go right round, but if it was at least 14' long, at least we could close off whichever side was being worked on. To go right round would need circa 40' plus posts which is going to be too expensive.

Maybe someone works for a company which uses these, and might loan them to us - a council, bank, theatre, dungeon - maybe not the last, as the chains would be too heavy.

We've only just got confirmation of our attendance so you couldn't have known about this when you announced the date for your weekend. I didn't even know which is why I put my name down for your offroad weekend initially.

With Pinky it will be more a case of, people can help if they want to, we aren't going to be short helpers as it won't take many to do what's necessary at any given time. Even when I'm not stripping myself I will still have to be in attendance to oversee things so I may as well be working if no one else is there to do some.

Just to clarify 2 things in the above statement:

1. Our insurance won't cover (no pun intended) Vernon stripping himself! :D

2. We DEFINITELY need stand helpers, even if we don't need strippers. (y)

Edit: having thought about this, maybe we do need strippers. The waxoyl girls up the the NEC a couple of years ago might be entertaining.......

I wondered who'd be first to jump on that statement. :p

Can I just add to this that if I wasn't heavily involved with the NEC show I would definitely be going to Yorkshire, it will be much more fun! :D
