Hello all
After having my panda (rusty) since 2008 with an very noisy rear axle the bearings finally gave up. It wasn't to bad in 2x4 mode but the grinding noise was quite bad once in 4x4 mode.

So as I was Lucky enough to have bought a few items from jumpinjacks in Cornwall including a rear axle, so after a few hours under rusty on the drive I swopped over the axles.

So now the job of rebuilding the old axle has started, so far I have stripped the old axle down removed the diff and pinion bearings whilst being carful to mark all item locations.

These are the bearings removed. The diff bearings where the worst one of them completely braking up during the removal

The pinion bearings where better but need replacing

Iv ordered new seals 2x half shaft and 1x pinion seals from eBay
I haven't, as yet ordered, the bearings

ill also be watching this space :D

the grey panda axle needs a bit of looking at. it works fine but the seals are starting to pass, it has lost its breather cap, the small bolts under the "4x4" plastic covers have a lot of play in them if you try to pull them with pliers.. without undoing the bolt..
and its just looking a bit of a mess really.

Iv done a fair bit of research in to this so il post all the information iv found in this thread, from lots of sources including this resource.

Iv not ever set one up before but as I'm keeping it, and it's for myself not a customer I'm going to give it a go.

Seals should be here today with luck

Will do il try to make a guide to go along with this thread. If anyone following has any suggestions or corrections while I'm doing this ( other than my spelling which isn't great lol) let me know.

You should have a pipe connected to the breather, ideally taking it up to the fire wall top to stop fluid getting sucked in when in deep water

Within this rebuild I'm going to try to make the difflock that pandik has shown us but I will need to source a sun gear ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1388755435.284391.jpg

I did have a idea to find a different item from a cv joint so after some looking through the cv book I found one with the correct number of splines. £20 from eBay and it has arrived, the school boy error. the spine count is the same but the shaft diameter was to small lol. Anyone need a cv joint for a Toyota carina e ?

Do you mean the half shaft retaining bolts ?

Phoned the bearing shop today (Townsend bearings bridport) and they are looking in to the bearings for me from what he said it looks like one of the pinion bearings are in stock but the other one as well as the diff bearings are going to be a bit harder to identify. I'm awaiting his call with these items.

The seals have also arrived, il post the sizes shortly
