General Panda Road Trip Italia

General Panda Road Trip Italia

With enough tools and pairs of hands it too could be accomplished on the hard shoulder ;)

Looking at it that way, travelling in a group of other nutters is probably the riskiest aspect of the trip, - one false move and it's stripped to the chassis before you can find a head gasket supplier.:(

If I haven't had it included with my insurance, I have had to use these people:

http://www.firstcallmotorbreakdown.co.uk/european/p5/#

They cover any age car...but do still check on a comparison site. I prefer money supermarket as it seems to give the most options usually.

But they have all the standard get out clauses so will be an argument to prove value of car is enough in higher cost claims. 4x4's might have a stronger case for £1000 valuation. Tbh, not much you can do about this risk, but as Andy has mentioned worst case is we tow the whole way home...even for the off road bit in Lucca haha!

Ferries! - There, I've said it.

DFDS Seaways are coming up looking good for me. They price very distinctly depending upon time of day and selfishly they distinguish between short trailers and big caravans. -It doesn't make much difference (about £20) but I like their transparency.

Dover to Calais about £60- 70 each way at reasonable hours gets my vote.

Any other thoughts?

I'm beginning to think we should take a leaf out of the original "Italian Job" and put the panda's inside a coach (obviously without the throwing out the back bit).

To save even more money it would obviously be amphibious to cross the channel.

What could possibly go wrong?

The plan for Tuesday 9th is to set off from the north as early as we can for a steady ride south, then jump the ferry and carry on at the other side of the water to hopefully reach Malmedy in Belgium by the end of our day.

More details to be finalised and posted this week on the plans for the full journey to and from our final destination.

Please let me know when ferry booking is completed gents
