Hello people,

i have found one Panda 1989 4x4 999c which im going to buy today if all go as planned. The only thing that concerns me is that when i test drove the car everything was working fine except from the fact that when i engaged the 4x4 system, the knob then would not move freely to disengage the 4x4 not even when i was in reverse. In other words the car is stuck in 4x4 mode.

Is there a serious problem making this particular thing or its just due to the fact that the car was not used for some months now. I drove the car till 3rd gear in 4x4 and it was running fine but there is a problem with disengagement. maybe it needs some calibration or lube?

Anyone had this?

thanks for the info and time :)

P.S i will do a little introduction with actual pictures of the car prolly tomorrow if all goes well.

Hi & welcome

It's not unusual for the 4wd to be difficult to disengage. The owner's handbook suggests moving back and forward a few times to unwind the tension in the system.

Mine seemed better this winter, but in the past has been tricky to disengage - going a foot back & forward on the drive a few times usually sorted it.

Of course there may be something else up, but it's a simple system and probably not a big issue even if there is a problem. Most likely a bit of tension built up coupled with lack of use - but someone technical will be along shortly I'm sure! (y)

Yep, all Gavin said. (y)

No problem on a Panda is major but I guess that's all relative.

Welcome to the Forum, and particularly the Classic Panda section.

Look forward to more info.

baby is home :) Pics tomorrow. No probs with the 4x4.. few niggles but yeah its a 25 year old car.. i drove it 10km in town and 60km on the motorway, no major problems.. the carb/fuel needs to be regulated, a broken sunroof clip thats all i suppose...

Hello people,

Not a even a tiny spot of rust.

Interior is a bit tatty, needs some cleaning.. other than that i love it <3

The front mask is a bit broken and i think its not a Panda one right?

Needs some attention on the sunroof and wheels.

I bet everyone's thinking....oooooh lets go to Cyprus and buy up all the rust free rhd Pandas! :p

Looks really good though. I'm working on a Panda at the moment that spent most of it's life in Malta and that too is rust free and rhd.

Everything on yours looks to be Panda, what do you mean by 'front mask'?

I've looked on Auto Trader Cyprus already, only one for sale (in the "antique" section was AlfistaCy's :D

And I did check flight prices too

ahahahaha indeed thats the one...

1500EUR was way too much... i paid 1100 which i consider it was a bit high but i had sold one Mitsubishi Lancer Auto 1.3L Carb 1994 3-4 days ago, which i had advertised for 750 and drop to 500-600 but eventually sold it for the full price so i went for the Panda..

I was looking for other Fiats as well... mostly UNOs but the 4x4 and the rare Panda got me.. Cant wait to get off from work and go give it a wash :)

P.S front mask i mean the grill/e ... is it a Panda one? from some pictures in the Internet it seems that the Panda facelift had a different than this one?

Didnt have much time today after work to further examine the car BUT..

I need 2 brackets for the sunroof. the ones that hold on to the car with the rivets. from a small research i made, none is available so im going to ask for a guy to fabricate a couple.. steel ones.

Rust has been found .. in the sunroof structure inside the vinyl. i think im going to disassemble the sunroof and clean that mess up.

i need a new headunit as the existing one is with a cassette and it doesnt even turns On :)

All the interior must go out and get cleaned. Driver seat has a tear but its minimal.

I already bought the belts and the water pump .. i need to change them + fresh oil.

the Carb needs to regulated.

The wheels need some painting

Im sure i need front bearings/hubs especially in the left.

Moreover, im sure im gonna find more in the future :bang: :slayer:

thanks man!

i ve gone through all links but i couldnt find the exact clips. its the one that attaches to the car by the rivet, and then the hard plastic flap/handle comes and knotches on its raised bar to secure. Dont know if you understood but i will try and find someone to fabricate some because i think its a weak design ..
