Hi guys, can someone help me, if you can tell me which lead starting from the top( as you look from near side from left to right) which plug the leads attach to which spark plug...ready to fire it up but i think i might have a lead connected wrong.

the onyx is going to the Bradford classic car show, if i get the leads sorted for this saturday...

thanks

kevin

Hi Kevin,
I think one coil connects to 1 and 3 (1 being the one closer to timing belt) the other one 2 and 4. I don't think it matters if you swap 1 with 3 and 2 with 4 as the spark plugs fire on exhaust stroke also.
Will double check though :)

plugs fire on exhaust stroke also.....could/would that be possible.....

i thought it was , PUSH,SQUEEZE,BANG,PUSH, hecnce the the spark on Bang....

unless i dont understand the fire engine, but thanks for checking, would rather have them same as before but if can same as another engine setup i will be happy.

Suck, squeeze, bang, blow is more like it.

LD is right, but it's not a feature of the FIRE engine, it's a feature of transistorised ignition in general. Using one coil to feed two plugs is cheap, and the fact that one of them always sparks when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke makes no difference. The fuel/air mixture has already been burnt so nothing other than the spark happens.

I'll have a look at my clx later and tell you it's firing order if it helps. (y)

Right. I was wrong, but not far.. :)
If you look a the coil retaining plate, you have the firing order stamped on it.
Top coil (the one nearer to bulkhead) is 1 and 4.
Bottom coil 2 and 3.
So looking at the coil ht connectors starting with the one closer to bulkhead, this is the order: 4,1,3,2.
Btw. The twin coil design it is very popular because it is simpler and cheaper than a 4 coil design and more reliable than the single coil (aka distributor). The engines using a twin coil design are also called a "wasted spark" system. 1 coil fire 2 spark plugs in 2 different cylinders. One of them will be on compression stroke (bang) the other will be on exhaust stroke (blow). Spark during exhaust will not affect performance or cause misfire. This also makes ECU programming simpler.
Hope this helps

checked them out and found that i had 2 wrong ones fitted, 2 and 3 was wrong way but now corrected.....

well i fitted the door cards tonight ready for the onyx to be shown in the Bradford Classic show this weekend.
will be fun explaining what car it is to the peeps.......
