General want a R1 in the onyx.....

Hi Kevin
Just joined this forum and noticed an old post of yours stating that you own the first Onyx Fire-fly built...... I hate to rain on your parade but thought I should let you know that I actually own the first ever Fire-fly built and have the documentation to prove it as well as a copy of a feature in Kit Car Magazine that followed the progress of my car as it was being built.

I've now decided to sell the Onyx (with private plate A1 ONYX) should anybody on this forum be interested :)

is yours the first production built one, i was well assured by David Golightly and his friend that this was the prototype, no windy windows and the rear end totaly different from the production ones, also have the pictures and some diagrams(if i can find them).

what is your registered as on the log book, mine is a panda convertable(wiered i know)

would be interested to find out tho whos is the first(not really bothered just interested) as i said the chaps that designed and built this said it was the first, after they built it it was driven from lands end to john o groats as a test before production, spyder steve on here as one as well, you can view some pictures of the rebuild in the gallery here

Hi Kevin
I think you might be right, mine is probably the first production one built. Car is listed as an Onyx Fire-fly on the log book. Thanks for the pics.

Esther

The R1 engine is over rated for kit cars. Okay for the track but just like the R1 you need to rev' the guts out of it to go anywhere. For the road you could do a lot worse than have the torque of a Triumph speed triple or VTR/SV/TL1000 twin. Inline triples are easier to fit than fours and twins (in my opinion) just sound so much better.

As for the Onyx being for sale. How much?

Stick a for sale ad up on here and we can all fight over it...

Hi Ester, owner of the Onyx.
I can also confirm that the car owned by Unclespeive is the Prototype as I have the original sales brouchere showing C987 LWG "Old Number One"
on its John O'Groats run in'93. I also saw the car during our test drive in "Harry"before buying No. 35. as a Kit that I still own and run-to-day.
Should you wish to just sell the Reg No I would be interest, providing it can be used on my 1987 Lancia Y10 donor date?
I have all the original articles on the build up of you car, as you probally know the owner was a "Lord something".
E-mail. [email protected]

Good luck with the sale

Iain:)
