Hi there, today my front windscreen wiper has fallen off.
I.e the wiper assembly won't mate to the motor properly, due to wear I suspect, both the gear on the motor and the mating part inside the base of the wiper arm are really quite worn. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can temporarily fix the arm to the motor or where I can get new parts from?

Thanks

Is your CLX wiper system the one with a push-on wiper arm or the bolt-on type ?
If it's the push-on, a favourite 'fix' is to drill through the arm socket and into the spindle; then screw in a self-tapper.

This problem happened on my panda last night. Luckily it waited until just after the rain had stopped. Haven't had a decent look yet, but it looks like a bit of a fiddly job to get access. No one Birmingham based has a spare do they?
Cheers
Ben

It's not that bad, heres only a couple of bolts holding the whole lot in and it's just behind the spare wheel.

Check to make sure that it's just not the little nut that connects the arms to the motor hasn't come loose....

Had a quick look. The arms are being turned by the motor. It's the bit that joins the wiper to the arms that is loose. Will try and sort it tonight. Thanks for advice

The (relatively) soft metals of the base of the arm, and the splined shaft it push fits onto wear one another out: it tends to "over wipe" beyond the glass for a while, then starts wiping the bonnet before it falls off..

A new arm might help, but both parts will be worn, so Pandafans solution with the self tapper is probably best quick fix.
Taking the wiper motor assembly out won't really help much, unless you've got a less worn replacement unit.

The one in the photo above ended up on my CLX just weeks before it was sold, to cure the same problem :(

I'll never forget this happening to me with the 750L. It started overwiping which was fair enough, until the time I turned the wiper on during some drizzle for it to disappear completely.......watching it go straight under the wheels of following cars:(

Unfortunately I was on the M18 at the time, so pulled over, ran back up the hard shoulder, retrieved the pieces from the middle lane (luckily it was a quiet sunday) and then contrived a method of repair. This was a shoelace from the spare trainers in the boot to tie the arm to the blade and a piece of the plastic bag the toe rope was in, put over the spindle and the arm then 'hammered' on with a piece of breeze block from the vergeside :D

I replaced the wiper blade at first opportunity, but the spindle repair was still fine in the 2 further years it had on the road.

P.S.More misery was to come. when I joined the M1 from the M18 there was an absolute downpour and I was too scared the wiper wouldn't cope, so I sat on the hardshoulder in what felt like a drum (cos of the rubber roof) waiting for the rain to stop. I also only had Radio 1, which was playing a continuous loop of 'mood' music cos princess Di had had a disagreement with a Fiat Uno in Paris that morning. Pure Misery.
