Hi everyone, a great site that has proved most helpful so far. I would like to ask for some advice on my problem. I bought a Panda CLX 1.0l (k reg) a couple of days ago - I only need it for 6 months or so but have been after one for a while. Ok, it may not have been the best purchase - even when I was buying it, I knew the guy was a little dodgy and that the car had seen better days. Having said that, it is a cracker for its age and runs beautifully - when it starts. Im not joking, it was absolutely fine when the guy started it to show me and even the next day when I went for a drive myself. Guess what though, get it home and the next day, all excited, the bloody thing wont start - you know that sinking feeling!

Eventually it started, went out for the day in it ( a little apprehensive as you can imagine ) but it was great, even starting first time on the way back. Next moring the same thing, but wouldnt start later. There is no pattern to its stubborness, its cold here all the time so I dont think thats it. Last night it took one turn of the key to get into work but atleast 5 minutes of effort to get it going only half an hour later.

Before people start to lose the will to live reading this, I would greatly apreciate any ideas as to what the problem may be before I spend money on it. As you can imagine, I'm not keen to as its only with me for 6 months and I bought the thing 3 days ago!!

Thankyou very much in advance.
Tom

Firstly, hello and welcome to FF Tom.

I'm sure the helpful people of Panda section will be able to help you diagnose your problems, but we'll need to get more information along the way.

So, I'll start the ball rolling. Does the car always start when the engine is cold but play up when the engine is warm/hot? Are you getting white smoke/steam from the exhaust when the engine is warm? And if you look inside the oil filler cap, are there any gloopy residues (brown/cream colour) in there?

All the above indicate head gasket failure, which is troublesome and not cheap to fix, so hopefully it's not that. It would be good to rule that out first..

Cheers,

Plug
