*Urgent help* - Fan

Drove 4 miles home in the Panda today, and the fan will not turn off?

It's not overheating or anything like that. The needle is where it should be

Help

Re: *Urgent help* - Fan

Sounds like the radiator thermostat is stuck in the closed position. That's the first thing I'd look at.

How long was it running for?

Disconnect, and then wait until engine cooled and re-connect to see if it still comes back on or stays off

It still runs even when it's all disconnected/re-connected. It just doesn't seem to want to stop

Master switch using red key

Also, battery. But that's the only way the fan stops. When it's all connected up again the fan starts.....again.......

Replace thermostatic switch, it's located at radiator.

It's actually my car (Charlotte posted earlier as I have no internet at home again!) It's an electrical cut-off switch - vehicle has been adapted for towing behind a camper van

Update: on re-starting about an hour later, there was no response at the accelerator (no revs) I attempted to push the fuel cut-off button by the passenger door but nothing happened. Then I turned off the engine and re-tried - Hey Presto! As I drove off the fan stopped. It came on again as I sat at a set of traffic lights about two miles on. When I stopped outside Charlotte's house guess what...? The fan wouldn't turn off!

Should I book it in for a new thermostatic switch? Is there anything else more sinister going on?

Thanks,
Mark

Re: *Urgent help* - Fan

The radiator thermostat on mine is located in the plastic part of the radiator between the top and bottom water hoses as in the picture below. It may be located somewhere slightly different depending on model/year/spec but should look like the one in the pic. There will be a plug on it which you can disconnect. If the fan stops when you disconnect it, then the thermostat is your problem.

Re: *Urgent help* - Fan

How long have you been waiting for the Fan to go off? I can run for a fair bit of time (upto 5-6 mins) after the engine and ignition have been turned off.

Absolute ages at first - I was outside chatting and I thought it was the building air-con making all the noise It's normally off by the time I've taken my bags out and walked up to the back door (50yds)
