Hi all,

I just bought a panda 4x4 which drives fine except that the clutch squeels if you slip it a bit when changing up gears. I dosnt do it when you are slipping it to pull away but if you use the accelerater and slip the clutch when changing up it squeels for a second or less. If you dont touch the accelerator and just lift the clutch its fine.

Any idea why its doing this?

It sounds like a worn clutch plate...as it squeals when you accelerate :(

I wouldnt have thought so as its does not slip on hill and only squeels when I lift the clutch up gently when changing up gears. If i just drop the clutch it dont squeel or slip .. very odd.

Could it be the alternator belt? Sounds like it is occuring when the revs change. If there is no slippage, I would check the belt, especially if the car has been lying dormant for a few months before purchase.

As a test, with the car at idle, switch on the electrics one at a time so the load builds up on the alternator and listen for a squeal.

HHmmmm could be the clutch bearing as it is a little noise when in nutral with the pedal up..

I dont think its the alternater belt as the reves arnt realy changing that much when it happens and it seem to come from the left of the car and i presume that the alternator is on the right?

I bet its a fun job doing he clutch on thee things with all the 4x4 gubbins :(

Yes that's right, but I had similar symptoms last year. I was near ordering a new release bearing when I discovered it was actually the alternator belt!

If you have ruled it out though, I guess you will not avoid unbolting the gearbox.
